North Korea attempted to launch their new Choe Hyon destroyer, which is the first type to carry VLS for them. It carries 74 cells, with 44 in the bow, and 30 in the stern, with 32 being small, 12 medium, 20 large, and 10 very large. The larger cells can most likely accommodate cruise and ballistic missiles. It has a four cell Bulsae ATGM launcher, capable of launching ASW munitions, short range guided missiles, and loitering munitions. It also appears to carry two quad antiship missile launchers.
During the launch attempt today, the bogies that were supposed to slide together and ease the ship into the water failed to do so, resulting in the stern bogie separating first, and the ship entering the water badly. The hull suffered serious damage, apparently ripping several sections open, resulting in the ship capsizing and rolling over as it entered the water. Kim Jong Un, who was on site at the time called it a criminal act resulting from “carelessness, irresponsibility and unscientific empiricism". He has called for the ship to be repaired by the June Committee meeting, as well as saying that people involved in the accident will be dealt with. This was the first time that North Korea has been seen side launching a new ship, which may have contributed to the accident.

Amazing.
Side launching of a vessel that size was obviously a huge mistake, but I wonder if really poor quality of construction wasn’t the biggest culprit here.
If the damage is that bad, then what are the chances of repairing it for relaunch within a month?
It sounds like there will be a lot fewer people, likely engineers and the higher end people left after the purge.

I know it says newly built but is that accurate? I'm glad they self sink, saves us some time and money if its that easy to damage one so badly. Looks like he's going to kill off all the people that are responsible too. Isn't communism awesome?

From that photo, it also faild to capsize and sink. It only did both half way. Good try though.
Roll, roll, roll your ship. Glub, glub.
I know too much and question everything.
Does anyone know the minimum safe distance of ignorance?
Did anyone ask the monkeys how much fun the barrel actually was?

This is the most advanced ship that North Korea has built to date.

Pretty nice satellite resolution!
I bet the US gov. watched the complete construction of that military ship... and the destruction of it.

I am not even a grunt, I am a runaway agent smith, and my opinion doesn't count for apples, but whenever you talk about North Korea, the biggest thing that comes to mind is an Aquarium.
The Aquariums of Pyeong Yang is a great book but conceptually what it hits home in, is the realm of purpose and direction of nations.
NK was created as a puppet state of the CCP.
NK still exists thanks to the CCP saving it in the Korean War.
The International Community allows it to exist to observe it.
To go even deeper, it was created AS a test state.
It is a giant aquarium for psyops and to see how people respond.
COVID wouldnt have happened as it did if we didnt have NK to study prior.
