'No big deal" Just an atmospheric phenomenon' some outages green energy absolved
#11
Before the outage hit, Spain was running its grid with very little dispatchable spinning generation, and therefore no much inertia. Solar PV/thermal + wind: ~78% Nuclear: 11.5% Co-generation: 5% Gas-fired: ~3% (less than 1GW) Snapshot at 12.30pm local time (outage was 12.35pm)

I guess it is only the people who also use cash who can pay for their groceries.

If this takes a week then people need to buy food.

I always have cash - they should never be allowed to remove cash!

Boy does that sound like made up BS.

I hope our members from Portugal are ok and can check in soon.

Yeah, the science evades me on that one.

As for Portugal, looks like they'll be back soo enough... The Guardian Live Feed

Portuguese prime minister Luís Montenegro called for patience as emergency services were working to restore energy in the country in the coming hours, according to comments reported by the Público and Diário de Notícias dailies.

Montenegro also said there was no indication the outage was caused by a cyber-attack, but noted it was too early to rule out any scenario.

He also indicated the grid failure “did not originate in Portugal,” with the country hit as a knock on effect of an issue in Spain.

Thats good news was hoping we had someone to explain those conditions in the atmosphere that can shut down a power grid in Spain, Portugal, and parts of France....

That sounds like a lot of words to say nothing or we don't really know what happened. Sounds like they are too embarrassed to say "We don't know."

Edit: It is funny that google knows nothing of this "induced atmospheric variation" before reports on this event. Sounds very made up without MSM questioning it.

Im skeptical of the alleged cause big time

Quote:'Rare atmospheric phenomenon' behind outage and disruption could last a week, Portuguese operator saysWe've just heard from REN, Portugal's grid operator.
It claims the outage that's affected Portugal was caused by a fault in the Spanish electricity grid, related to a "rare atmospheric phenomenon".
REN says that, due to extreme temperature variations in Spain, there were "anomalous oscillations" in very high-voltage lines.
It says this is known as "induced atmospheric variation", which in turn led to oscillations which caused synchronisation failures between systems.
That led to successive disturbances across the interconnected European network, it adds.
It also says that given the complexity of the issue, it could take up to a week for the network to fully normalise again.

Given the complexity of the issue, it could take as long as a week for the network to return to normal.
E-Redes, which is the national energy supplier of Portugal, has also shared a statement on the blackout where they said the interruption was due to a problem in the European electricity grid.
Spain's electricity grid operator Red Eléctrica has said that "all resources" are being dedicated to solving the issue.

That does sound like the simulation of generators, read inverter produced powed, may have contributed to if not caused this failure.

This new fangled power generation has not been tested and developed for over 100 years like the spinning generators have.

Given the geopolitical context of current events I wouldn't be surprised if this was a demonstration of capabilities.

Haha, I think Im following along, though you might need to explain it like Im 5

... so our tech for collecting and distributing green energy might have unknown or unimagined weaknesses.

sounds like the temperatures created oscillations in the inverters?
