I can't speak for others, but I'm wired to request the scarlet letter. What fun are circle-jerks of mutual admiration?

I just so happens the imperialist/nationalist throwback patriarch of my nightmares was elected and now wants to walk back 30 years of social change because meritocracy was lost to equal opportunities. There's far to many lesbian fire chiefs named Chris-something now. Far too many more deserving white men being overlooked. Too many illegals, who are terrible people says the president.

Basically this scene is the operative cultural standard for what Trump is to our 30 years of attempted change. Remember, this was once preached by us Hollywood liberals as an example of latent white supremacist thought.

And sometimes the Jackboot still fits. And when you are purposely undoing everything after 1992 by executive order you return everyone to that dinner table.

Trump is never going to escape the connection because his policy aligns very closely with far right groups like the white nationalists and Aryan Nation. Trump is a Volkish dream come true. He embraces things that piss on our 30 years of activism. What everyone sees as new and refreshing from Trump has been advocated by Aryan Nation websites for decades.

So we are just going to have to do it all over again. Freak out all over again. And march and protest to try to win back the swing voters. And never go away.

I'm ultimately restrained here, I withhold the anti-hate and deep lavender view of that patriarchal racist nightmare which Trump is bringing alive. Because it has no choir to preach to here. It gets inserted subversively instead.

But I prefer having that scarlet letter when the leader of the still free world (as far as I can tell) pisses on the change I lived in hopes others would follow.

And that's why this would be apt background music for my snowflakism. Ive always been an SJW type, just haven't had a reason until this administration of Trump. Like waiting for the last conflict. This seems like it.

And ɓecause this is about background music, I'll put the provoked political me into music.

I am not saying this about you per say, this is just me looking at the juxtaposition in my concert video and your post below; that the irony of the Progressive left rabidly supporting Ukraine, whose civil servants are riddled with Banderites and avowed Nazis, while many of them are still calling themselves Antifa at the same time, really blows my mind. 

I suppose it's similar to the antifa kids who are rabidly pro Palestine even though the Palestinians hate many of their queer guts. Kind of thing. 

Now because this is music thread, and apologies for disruption QUINTESSENTONE started it by equating everyone here, except for you two as 'rednecks' .somehow. .

I could never not support Israel, yet I just posted Prophets of Rage song. Where do you think they'd stand on my support? Like posting System of a Down Armenian genocide song in a zionist context.

Ukraine is racist too. They are more notably racist than most. It's actually a longstanding Eastern European stereotype. Russia too. They're largely a Chinese store owner when a black person enters.

I see racism/xenophobia as endemic to all society.

I'll be honest, the woke deserved to fail, because if we let the version we tried win it would just make intolerance the new thing to discriminate against. Which is what happened, happens around the world, and why we have to reset and deal with the blowback. Crinimalizing hatred doesn't fix it.

And now the first 25 years of progress are being killed off because the last five years of the Prophet of Rage Concert got wacky.

I need to designate my irony posting (the last part of that post) when I do it. Because you hit on it without noticing it.

I do support much of what preceded. I live diversity, equality, and inclusion, we just need to find a way to promote it without making it compulsory and dictorial.

Like UKs zero tolerance method is probably not the way to go.

I enjoy playing devil's advocate and stirring the pot, if you hadn't noticed, and I almost automatically support the fringe or weird.
I was a skater, punk in HS, and a Young Democratic Socialist for a bit in College.

What changed is that old adage 'if you are not a liberal in college you have no heart, if you are not a conservative when you are older, you have no brain' I really agree with that. I was in the Army, I served Honorably, and I also got more into seeing things from a more pragmatic and logical point of view without the emotion attached to much of the left.  

As I aged more, and now then I would move past even THAT by saying I am trying to be Above Politics completely.
I think politics, activism, and tribalism is stupid and infantile.  Maybe I don't do a good job expressing that in my posts, or maybe people are just so engrained in their own space that they don't see it even if it's blatant. 

Either way I am more interested in the Spirit and Soul, and view the matter as more of a playground and a tool to better the inside.  And if I am naturally a more harmonious person with others, through spiritual pursuits, that will negate the need to 'practise' politics, as I will ipso facto treat people equally, while still calling out BS. 

All is mind.

I really (really) have major reservations about what "modern" activism is.

Have a cause? Doesn't matter to the activist... to them causes require gala "events"... media splash,  celebrity speakers, 10-page lists of memes and one-liners... a secondary list of people to directly oppress (ranging from organized annoyances to dehumanizing sloganeering.)  It's about the public jabs on stage, glorious results measured by the amount of people who were not convinced, but FORCED, to stop and reset their day... over the activists' cause. 
It's a game they play at everyone else's expense (plus a financial kickback for media).

The LITTLE problem here....

... what passes for activism - is more and more egregiously self-destructive because of an inevitable redundant recycling of "bad things from ourselves we tolerate..."

Take, for example, making a movement to "hate" haters... (sort of self-defeating  )

We frequently talk about 'woke'... and yet "woke" soiled itself to the point of now being a running gag for comedians...

Think that ever would have happened with any movement that called for nurturing, and helping others?


But that's a fundamental issue that must be resolved within the consciousness of each participant in the movement.  Something which people who engender and 'create' activism desperately try to avoid by keeping a constant churn of angst and hype circling around the issue... focusing only to talk about "personalities" and "celebrities," "heroes," and "villains," to keep the dust from settling over the unwritten rule that everyone must accept that their fight eclipses all things. - it's not the issue that matters... it's the fight fight fight.

(PS - most of the world's "politics" is - in actuality - media 'enhanced' activism.)


I apologize... I would love to explore this more deeply, a bit more expansively...

I love songs that date well and also don't date well, for obvious reasons. Always a favorite song. I like to apply it to people that are afraid to do something for whatever reason the use.

It's also pre "Make Yourself" Incubus, and while Pardon Me and especially Stellar will always be special songs, this one's my favorite. It's the the "get to the damn point and do what you want to do" song. Always a background hymn for me.
