Worst cover songs in the history of music
#1
The other day I was thinking about different song covers and how sometimes the cover actually does better or sounds better than the original.

Which made me think well, what's the WORST cover of a song?

This is MY OPINION but I want to hear yours. And I am NOT a Madonna hater. She's alright at what she does but this was just ridiculous.

I really feel like Madonna's........I'm gonna call it a "reimagining" of Mclean's American Pie is one of the worst covers ever made.

I KNOW, I KNOW. Don Mclean himself LOVES it and considered it an honor to have Madonna cover his song so I am not trying to be mean and I am happy he liked it because personally........woof.

It's not even just the song itself. In the music video, Madonna is hopping around, shaking her booty, and at one point toward the end starts bouncing on some hunky guy's lap. All this while photos of what purport to be average Americans flash on the screen as well.

It's strange and disrespectful. Not just to the spirit of the song itself but also to America. In my opinion. She's got the American flag waving around while she's gyrating like a stripper and absolutely butchering a song about a tragic day in America and the ramifications.

All laid over an upbeat pop backing track that doesn't at all fit with the subject matter of the song.

What do you guys think? Do you like Madonna's cover of this song? What do you think is the worst song remake? Or other terrible ones?

I don't know about worst, but I always thought Joe Cocker "With A Little Help From My Friends" was superior to The Beatles

Can't I do the best ones I've ever heard? I have so many more that I love than hate.

Which these ones top the list:

F211 - Tom Sawyer

The Bangles - Hazy Shade of Winter

Gary Jules - Mad World

Bad ones though? That's harder than it sounds because I  tend to forget terrible covers.

I would say anything Fred Durst, but I also hated most songs he covered... So I'll spare everyone the George Michael cover...

They did destroy this song, but more because Pete Townshend told them to go F themselves, so they had to bypass copyright.  They would have done fine with it had they gotten to do the full cover.

Limp Bisquick - Behind Blue Eyes

Anything Kid Rock too.

But Disturbed, unlike The Bangles, did a really bass-toned off sounding version of Simon and Garfunkel. I like folky higher toned singing with that particular song.

Distrurbed - The Sounds of Silence

So, sorry to post more that I liked, it was just easier.

To me, the worst are the dance remixes of songs that were originally far from dance songs, like the dance version of Disturbed's version of "the sound of silence".

WOW that Tom Sawyer cover ROCKS! I never heard that one or of that band before so thanks for sharing. Hehehe it seems like Disturbed has gone into the cover band business unfortunately because some of their earlier stuff was pretty good. But that Sounds of Silence is probably as bad as Madonna's American Pie hehehehehe.

I see a lot of songs getting the Afro House rub these days.  Here's an example:

Is it good or bad?  You decide.

On a different note, Afro House seems to becoming the new EDM.  I hope not because I really like the genre.

I would go with Bowie and Jagger:
