Katie Couric Criticizes 'Bothsidesism'
#1
Katie Couric spoke out against "bothsidesism" in news coverage and insisted people don't want "just the facts" in the current media environment.
Appearing on Tuesday's installment of "The Grill Room" podcast, Couric decried the current backlash against the "expert" class, saying she loves talking to people "with a deep well of knowledge" about specific issues.
"So what I try to do, and what we try to do, is help people stay abreast of everything that's happening, which is increasingly difficult given the velocity of things that are thrown at us primarily by this administration," Couric told host Dylan Byers. "But I try to understand and give them some perspective and context and help explain in some cases why people need to be aware and concerned about some of the things that are happening in this country."
"And I think the era of kind of bothsidesism or just the facts — and by the way, just the facts without context, without examination, I don't think people really want that."

so the lady who has worked in media for decades, hobnobbing with the rich and famous and connected, decides SHE knows what 'the people' want.
'Not only will we tell you the facts, we will interpret them for you.'
left unsaid is the concept that 'you people are too stupid to understand things so we will explain to you.'

poster child for elite media.
this mindset is why media numbers, viewers, readers, are all down.  'people' don't want to be lectured, they are intelligent enough to understand the issues and don't want relentless leftist propaganda.  from people like Katie Couric.

yes, we do want just the facts, without 'examination' and experts.  funny how the leftist media always manages to find some 'experts' who will tell them exactly what they want to hear.

I care even less about her criticism than I care about her opinion, and I care even less about her opinion than her reporting, and I don't watch that.

She absolutely hit the nail on the head with that analysis of main stream media. Those that can or want to see the truth will always look for independent 'investigative' news media. I don't agree with the 'too stupid' thing because I think it's indoctrination, bias, denial and programming which is what main stream media all use to subliminally feed the people what they think is the truth - feeding them propaganda and lies disguised as verification (government doublespeak) and validation that the path they are following is the correct and true one.

People don’t want “just the facts”.  What a moronic thing to say coming from her.  We want facts and truth just not your “facts” that come with your manufactured narratives.   It’s crazy that anyone believes the propaganda BS that comes from msm talking heads.   They’re the enemy within.
Apparently I’m in cult now, someone here told me so.

The perspective of Yale History Professor, Timothy Snyder:

"Both-Sidesism is the habit of reducing the world into two perspectives, treating the two as fundamentally alike, and then ignoring or adjusting the data.  One cause of this odd behavior is the ownership of media companies.  Another is fear.
But Both-Sidesism is not just a practice.  It passes in the United States for a principle of journalism.  Indeed, the dualism is almost unquestionable. Americans tends to take it for granted.

But it makes no sense.  No data from the world around us indicates that two is the correct number of perspectives, nor that any two perspectives, once chosen, would be equal.

"But let us step back.  Let us consider, for the sake of argument, that Both-Sidesism might be a dualist cult.  Let us place its beliefs and practices in the context of the history of religion, and see what happens."

Both Sides (audio) - by Timothy Snyder - Thinking about...

"Factual investigation would involve identifying other perspectives which the cult of Both Sides disregards.  It would necessitate separating the two aspects Both Sides from each other and confronting their words with the facts of the world.  To believers in the cult of Both Sides, it is a relief clothed in righteousness never to have to perform such labor."

"PS  I want to be clear: this essay concerns the dominant both-sides ritual in the American “media,” and not the work of actual investigative journalists, who follow very different methods, and whose work stands at the basis of what we now about Trump’s ongoing attempt at regime change.  I dedicated Road to Unfreedom to reporters as “the heroes of our time.”  They are."

When I go to an expert or someone who has vast hands-on experience in they’re field — and they ask me what I want — I refer back to them.

My ego can take a hike.

I don’t agree.

FOX “entertainment” is a prime example.

But — we here —  came here by choice looking for answers.

She’s drenched in partisan politics and propaganda.  Definitely not anyone I would ever trust for honest information.

I think Annee meant this person who quint mentioned (not sure though):
https://timothysnyder.org/books/

Who doesn't seem exactly un-cloistered, actually.

But she may have meant Katie Couric, the tri-delt cheerleader who used to have a pretty decent pair of legs. Not sure if anyone would have heard of her if that weren't the case.

I find that FOX is more honest than the other top networks and not because of bias either.   I find that most people that criticize FOX never watch or read it, so how do they know besides what talking head propagandists tell them to think?

You hate Trump and conservatives so it’s no surprise you’re going to hate FOX but do you actually ever watch it?

Katie may have been a good journalist at one time but she’s a political hack now and has been for awhile.
