How is the Government shut-down affecting you?

This situation is extremely divisive.

If everyone can just put the left/right blame game aside, then one place everyone can look/read is how less one's dollar is worth. That tells everyone exactly what they need to know about what is really going on and what government really needs to do.

Hey I did a thread on this a little while ago, and someone posted about the Dollar Index that Weaknews is talking about so breathlessly. Here is a graph of the Dollar Index over a larger date range:

See the little tiny bit at the far far right? Where you almost can't even tell it's dropped? That's the Dollar Index going from 108.37 to 97.66 this year, the "tanking" during Trump's administration that the Weaknews article is so breathless about.

But yeah, the 10% drop in the Dollar Index is exactly matching the "increase" in the DJIA, so there is that...

It has more to do with it's buying power than looking at an up and down graph.

Yes, up and down graphs are the worst when trying to quantify change.

They just don't quantify purchasing power because they don't include data like, how trade and the markets affect food prices in grocery stores (as a CEO of a big supermarket there explained in a video I watched), or how what's happening with the volatility of oil/gas prices is really out of government's hands. So with a lower dollar, then one's purchasing power is lessened by many other factors not indicative in an up/down chart.

Doesn't it need to apply to something?

A chart by itself -- doesn't tell the full story.
Oh yes don't get me wrong, costs are going through the roof and everything is going to shit and if it's not Trump to blame it's the bankers or the profiteers or maybe evil Russia or China or even the Democrats or something, I'm only pointing out that the Dollar Index (and many other inflation and cost indicators) have been a lot more volatile in the past, and looking at a 10-month window isn't necessarily the best perspective for gauging how bad things are in the large view, as the Newsweek article implied. The relationship between the Dollar Index and import costs, and effects on the price of imported consumer goods, is fairly straightforward.
Hasn't effected me.  Not in big  city anymore. Could have some around here in future so I'm not going out too much. Gun Loaded and ready to go if some illegal etc  comes to my residence.

Everything is improving. And we don't have terrorists flooding through the border to try and kill us. That's all a  win win for me.  Lol

It’s like buying a fire extinguisher that says, “This blaze looks serious… unlock full suppression mode for just $11.99/month!”
