They are probably more filled in on the risks than say your average person taking blood thinners or blood pressure meds or anti-depressants etc. or just about anything the pharmaceutical companies push doctors to prescribe.
What it does say is how serious gender dysphoria is for some and the risks they are willing to take to relieve it are worth it any cost.
Transition, HRT and surgery are not a death sentence. There are many trans people in their 50s, 60s, 70s and beyond that have lived full and productive lives they otherwise wouldn't have without appropriate treatment.
Additionally, there are many socioeconomic factors that can affect a trans person's overall health that are rarely considered.
