Greenland USA

It is Greenland.

Excuse me, I shall rephrase. Greenland is part of the North American continent.

That's where we disagree. 57,000 people laying claim to 2.2 million sq km and all its natural resources?

What does the number of their population have to do with anything? Does that mean Iceland has no sovereignty?

Thats ridiculous.

And the notion the US just gets to have it because we’re powerful is arrogant.

I get the argument the US has helped ensure worldwide peace with our Navy, and many nations didn’t pay the same percentage… but it’s not like we got nothing out of the deal. The world chose our currency as reserve currency. We have bases of some sort in most nations on earth. It’s not like it was all altruistic and sacrifice. It was an exchange.

To think the whole world would just sit back and watch belligerent land grabs from our Allie’s is truly arrogance. Maybe they wouldn’t be able to respond militarily, but that doesn’t mean the couldn’t make us feel pain. If our bonds got dumped by Allie’s and foes, that would hurt just as much as a full blown war.

Also, NATO (which includes the USA as a member) and the US bases already there, ensure those resources and the rights of Greenland to exist as a sovereign country will be available.

I'm not sure that the US 'owning' Greenland is in the interests of the rest of the Western Hemisphere (including Greenland itself).

Definitely the rest of the Western Hemisphere sees it as only to the advantage of an increasingly isolationist and trade blockaded USA, and that the rest of the Western Hemisphere will not ultimately have reasonable access to, or trade in, Greenland's mineral resources.

The US has one base in Greenland which is only there for reconnaissance and missile detection/early warning.

It's the idiot protesters that go over board and impede them.
Breaking the law in the process and causing all the problems.

A family's routine journey home turned into a life-threatening crisis when federal law enforcement's tear gas and crowd-control munitions engulfed their vehicle, leaving a 6-month-old baby unresponsive and several children hospitalised. The Jackson family of Minneapolis says their vehicle, carrying six children including a baby, was hit by tear gas and flash-bang devices deployed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers amid protests on the night of Jan. 14, 2026 — an incident that has ignited fresh scrutiny of federal tactics in civilian areas.

I imagine if Trump gets his way in Greenland, the attacks on the Greenlanders for demonstrating against a tyrant will be a lot worse.

I mean really, don't they have satellites for that sort of thing now?

Quote:You all must wake up’ – thousands in Denmark show up to protest Trump’s demand for Greenland.

Thousands across Denmark and Greenland have defiantly protested against Donald Trump's controversial demand for the Arctic island to be ceded to the United States, asserting its right to self-determination.
Trump has previously stated Greenland is vital to US security due to its strategic location and mineral wealth, even refusing to rule out military intervention. In response, European nations dispatched military personnel to the island this week at Denmark's request.
In Copenhagendemonstrators chanted "Greenland is not for sale" and displayed slogans such as "No means No" and "Hands off Greenland" alongside the territory's red-and-white flag as they marched towards the US embassy. Some wore red baseball caps mimicking the "Make America Great Again" caps of Trump supporters, but emblazoned with "Make America Go Away".
Meanwhile, in Greenland's capital, Nuuk, thousands led by Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen carried flags and similar banners, heading for the US consulate while chanting "Kalaallit Nunaat" – the island's name in Greenlandic.
"I’ve come here today because I think it’s important to show that Greenland is not for sale. It is not a toy. This is our home," said Naja Holm, a civil servant. Mr Nielsen addressed the cheering crowd outside the consulate.

If it's not about resources then what is this about

Providing restitution over genocide?

My post said nothing about the US. And the size of the population has everything to do with establishing sovereignty, which Iceland did in 1944 and Greenland didn't. The world has changed and Greenland is SOL.

And why should they get a seat at the table with the great nations of the world representing billions of people? I am not saying ignore them and their history completely, maybe carve out a small chunk they can reasonably govern, with special rights of access to the rest,  but if they are to survive as a people, it will be as a vassal for another who can protect them.

Didn't America try that with it's native population, and then also with it's Japanese population during WW2.  The U.S. government managed that so well. didn't they? Let America just round up the Greenlanders and put them in camp? Oh, wait?? Didn't Hitler also do that with a certain type of people too??

My post said nothing about the USA. I am not chasing your strawman.
