Gaza ceasefire deal to begin on Sunday - ‘permanent end to war’
#21
After the cease-fire, I wonder how long Israel can sustain the war. Taking reservists out of their civilian lives to fight the war in Gaza impacts Israel's economy. So far, the percentage of Israel's working population fighting on the frontlines isn't causing an economic downturn.

In the long term, regime change in Gaza relies upon finding a viable replacement for Hamas. As the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq displayed, regime change ended badly. However, regime change in Gaza faces more pressing practical issues.

Every time someone picks up an AK-47 in Gaza, they replace Hamas' latest round of casualties. Shutting down Hamas' international financial sources is another obstacle to destroying or removing Hamas from Gaza.

There is a lot of mistrust between both sides with this deal. I guess we have to wait and see what happens at each stage. I really don't see who or what group can replace Hamas at this point. It also seems to me any other choice of an Islamic freedom fighter group, which Israel labels all as terrorists, will also be rejected by Israel.

Why can't the Palestinian people vote to decide who governs them? They are completely left out of this deal with no guidelines of what Israel expects as to governace of Gaza, let alone Gaza having true independence. Not looking good.

Meanwhile, armed Hamas "fighters" are driving round Gaza being cheered by Palestinians....
I now know why I am called a grown up. Every time I get up I groan.

Could it be because Hamas agreed to make a deal with Israel to stop the war?

Could be. Or maybe they support Hamas' often stated resolve to genocide Israel?

Both sides have stated genocidal intentions, yet both sides seemingly want to end the war. Or do they?

Biden on news now live speaking about the Gaza-Israel ceasefire and end to the war.

I also just watched an Israel government official speak about it and basically he said that the Israel government will discuss who will govern the Palestinian people with the Trump Administration, nothing said about what the Palestinian people want.

Who knows? Hamas certainly doesn't and it looks like Israel doesn't either, but I guess we'll see.

I'm not hopeful.
