There were proven attempts by foreigners to interfere with the 2016 US elections, primarily by using social media (about which some people did/do not seem to have developed any cynicism, and so they believed the posts entirely).

The Mueller report was specifically investigating Russian interference in the 2016 election - not 'collusion'.

Collusion is not even a legal term (as the report noted). The report and investigation concentrated, instead, upon 'criminal conspiracy' and there were many convictions of that charge:

The Mueller report was specifically investigating Russian interference in the 2016 election - not 'collusion'.

"Collusion" ... "Trumps ties to Russia" .... "Campaign staff ties to Russia" ... all investigated.   
That's investigating COLLUSION.

This does not mean that they didn't. It just means that the investigation didn't find anything on those particular individuals.

And, the investigation did find others who "conspired or coordinated with the Russian government in its election interference activities."

The investigation was broader than only the Trump campaign.

I think I can adequately understand what Mueller wrote in the report:

One of the interactions between the Trump Campaign and Russian-affiliated individuals—the June 9, 2016 meeting between high-ranking campaign officials and Russians promising derogatory information on Hillary Clinton

Goldstone passed along an offer purportedly from a Russian government official to provide “official documents and information” to the Trump Campaign for the purposes of influencing the presidential election.
Trump Jr. appears to have accepted that offer and to have arranged a meeting to receive those

... while the investigation identified numerous links between individuals with ties to the Russian government and individuals associated with the Trump Campaign, the evidence was not sufficient to support criminal charges.

... the Office also determined not to charge Donald Trump Jr. with a misdemeanor computer-intrusion offense for accessing a third-party website using a password sent to him by WikiLeaks.
