People aren't naïve just because they're showing a little compassion. 

These problems exist because of us not the dogs.  All of us here know that 3 million wild dogs aren't manageable and can't be ignored but to cull them just to make the cities look clean for a few football games is exactly a good reason. 
Morocco have had this problem for a while with out the need to kill these animals. It's only for doing it for the visitors.


As for rabies, there are many other animals that can get rabies, should we cull all of those too perhaps???

If manage means we have to thin the herds of the offending species, so be it. I've already stated that they aren't being managed and their numbers have exploded. Australia is culling wild cats as they are decimating bird populations. I suppose we should let those cats do their own thing as well ??

To protect another species or reduce the spread of disease, culling is a must. When it's only being done for tourism that just seems wrong.

3 million stray dogs?? What else are you supposed to do? Legislate for housing and a snap program? Any excuse to thin them out is completely warranted. Sorry if it hurts people's feelings but they should have thought about that BEFORE it got out of hand.

Go to a Taverna and they will beg for food, which we actually like.

The solution?  During the winter Vets volunteer to come over from the mainland and neuter them.

You can tell the ones that have been done, they are given a little nick in their ears.

They are 'fixed' so no more babies.  Then released back out in the wild.

37 million people live in Morocco and it covers 446,550km so 3 million wild dogs isn't actually that bad considering. If they were to neuter them, it would make a difference pretty quickly.

If they were out of control and causing disease or threatening other animal populations then culling is sometimes the only answer, but here it's poor animal control and for tourism so killing them is shouldn't be the first go to in my opinion.  They should educate the locals first.

We have adopted two feral cats.  Gizmo just turned up and moved in.  He was always fighting and after many expensive Vets bills when we kept asking if there was anything to do about it - no.

Next time, took him to a different Vet to get him stitched "You really should get him neutered".

This is True.

Tijuana is AWFUL with stray dogs. Around a 150,000, plus all the urban coyotes and the occasional hybrid of the two.

Its just their culture of dogs roaming free and finding their own food.  Its accepted like the obscene number of yearly homicides.

Ciudad Que Dios Olvidó.  Not to be confused with Ciudad Juarez, another city abandon by god.

But at least TJ built a new pointless viaduct to reduce congestion between la playas y el aeropuerto. President Sheinbaum went to drive on it and everything. 

So you can drive above the dogs now.

Because the dogs are smart.  Even they know to go the tourist areas like; Zona Norte, Centro, Rio, or Revolución.

Those are the districts with the fewest stray cartel bullets per capita, and the highest number of stray dog loving tourists taking pity. 

So, when going to Mexico on foot, you get accosted first by mexicans trying to promote the cosmetics or drugs at their "brother's" famarcia. Often pitching you Valium or Ativan. And then the dogs accost you near the bacon-wrapped hotdog vendors.

For women and some added safety note the latin culture "sidewalk rule," and bring a guy to walk between you and the street. 

The most stray dog heavy cities on Earth are:

Dehli, Karachi, Moscow, Istanbul, Bangkok (called "Pad Kra Woof"), with Marrakech and Mexican cities like Tijuana, Mexico City, and Monterrey also listed. 

I bring up Mexico because both Mexico City and Monterrey are hosting 2026 world cup matches with up to 1.2 million and over 500,000 stray dogs respectively.

So at least Mexico isn't doing something similar. They deemed them as having "sentience" deserving of protection.  Which i guess it like decaring "All Dogs Go To Heaven" too.
