3,000,000 Dogs to be Massacred Ahead of World Cup

'Moroccos ugly secret'

Morocco is cohosting the World Cup.
It has 3 million stray dogs in the cities.
It is 'cleaning them up' to make it look better for tourists for the world cup.
Caught ... starved before burned alive ... shot by firing squad ... poisoned ....

Three Million Dogs To Be Massacred Ahead of World Cup

Quote: Shocking images and reports of dogs being killed in Morocco have drawn global scrutiny of a campaign linked to the country's 2030 World Cup preparations.   The North African nation was confirmed in 2023 as a co-host alongside Spain and Portugal, a decision that animal rights groups claim has coincided with a widespread cull of strays across Moroccan cities

An estimated three million stray dogs live on Morocco's streets.  Animal welfare organizations have released images and testimony alleging Moroccan authorities are using harsh methods, including clamping dogs by the neck, loading them into trucks and poisoning or shooting them before disposing of their bodies in mass graves.

A report published last month described Marrakech, expected to host World Cup matches, as a 'kill center,' where canines were transported in white vans and processed in warehouse facilities fitted with meat hooks and washable flooring.
Witnesses in other host cities alleged that dogs were starved for days before being burned alive at rubbish depots.

The sheer scale of it seem heartbreaking...

How do 3 million stray dogs live in the city if not as 'community' pets?

I wonder if there will be an incidental rat problem, now that the dogs will all be killed for 'appearances?"

Horrible. A canine final solution…

First nation communities do that up here (certainly not to the same scale), they let the people know that it’s going to happen so they can tie up their pets, then drive around with a pickup truck with a Moose haunch being dragged. Once they get enough following the guy in the back starts shooting. They throw them in the truck and continue… They are taken to the dump and torched and the process begins again.

It’s horrible, but also keeps the dog pack attacks down.

Where I live, the "wild" dog problem is ever growing.  I put that in quotations because technically all of these dogs were once owned by somebody who -- in my opinion -- became a shithead and stopped caring for them.   I don't blame the dogs.  They are doing what they have to in order to survive.  The dogs are at least a nuisance and a growing concern when they pack together.   I expect nothing will be done until they take down a human.

We used to have an animal control officer, but he retired.   I say this all to express that I understand how the problem grows and is unattended.   People need to be responsible for their pets and have them neutered and spayed to control their numbers, unless they commit to also care for the pet's offspring.  Where I live, we also have a feral chicken problem.   You would think that the wild dog/feral chicken problem would balance themselves, but they don't.

I think it is appalling that Morocco is just slaying dogs.   What bothers me most is that they (apparently) weren't addressing this problem until they won the bid for the World Cup.   I don't know that this is true, but it seems so.  I am happy to be corrected.

What I hope would come from this is an animal care project in which animal control officers captured, housed, treated and held dogs pending adoption.   Regrettably, often after a period of time, those animals are euthanized.   Still, I think that is far more humane than just shooting them down like dogs in the street -- ... ..... which, of course, they are.   Sad

Just think how it smells over there with that many dogs pooping everywhere in that city.

That is way too many dogs to be out on the street...even if they are nice friendly dogs.

Muslims consider dogs as unclean and should not be kept inside.

That's all I'm saying, until people start getting saucy.

Some Muslim people actually consume dog meat. I saw it in Kyrgyzstan.

So, 3 million dogs would provide an awful lot of protein. Piss-poor waste of resources really.

Dog is tasty meat, properly prepared.  I would not seek it now,but have eaten it in the past.

I ate it then in ‘93 and enjoyed it before finding out what it was.

I was a few beers in, but I remember it very well. No I wouldn’t eat it again if I had the chance, but it still is a waste of meat destroying 3 million animals.

I love dogs as well, but animal control, spay and neutering!

Folks use to say China killed 12 million dogs and cats for the meat and fur trade a year. I will post a video but once seen you can not UN-see the cruelty.

Being shot or gassed is much better IMO than being "SKINNED ALIVE !"
