I don't know if these comments fit here or not, but I read your thread and it caused this response:
1. Why does bottled water have an expiration date?
2. Why does both Mexican and Pinoy cuisine use the term "adobo" and it doesn't mean the same thing (although both contain vingegar)??
Along those lines, this afternoon's yum-yums were Filipino pork kabobs, adobo mushrooms with spicy cole slaw.
Kabobs: Pork butt, carved into 1" pieces, marinated overnight in a mixture of soy sauce, fresh ginger, banana ketchup, Datu Puti vinegar and garlic. Banana Ketchup??? WTF??? Yep, that's a thing. It is exactly what it sounds like an is delicious. Pieces threaded onto bamboo skewers, put on the barbeque grill and basted with banana ketchup and sesame oil mixture. Absolutely delicious. No dipping sauce needed.
