New video shows officer's perspective in ICE shooting of Renee Good

Only the guilty should be prosecuted for their crimes.

... and there are police there to deal with actual crimes.

Being in your country should not be a crime, or not; based upon appearance of ethnicity.

ICE are arresting people who are genuine US citizens and based upon the fact that they look slightly South American, even if they aren't. That is systemic racism, not enforcement of law.

All the U.S. Citizens Who’ve Been Caught Up in Trump’s Immigration Crackdown

ICE data shows 72% of people detained have no criminal convictions

So America can send the 20 million undocumented to your house?

Yay? thanks chrOnaut

Hey guys, we got it figured out chrOnaut's gonna take in a few dozen

I'd get out an air mattress, and you're wife told me to tell you to get some more milk.

Thanks, dude, have fun. Make sure to teach them the haka dance

I'd keep an eye on your wallet though...

PS. Will the Kiwi government process them all at once, or can we just mail them to you in batches?

Quote:What is New Zealand's stance on non-citizens entering thier country

New Zealand maintains a structured and controlled approach to allowing non-citizens (foreign nationals who are not New Zealand or Australian citizens) to enter the country. The policy focuses on temporary visits (e.g., tourism, visiting family, short business, or transit), with strict requirements to ensure genuine temporary intent, good character, health standards, and compliance with biosecurity/customs rules.
Key Entry Requirements for Non-Citizens
Non-citizens generally need prior authorization to enter New Zealand, depending on their nationality:
  • Australian citizens (traveling on an Australian passport) are exempt — they do not need a visa or NZeTA and are typically granted an Australian Resident Visa on arrival (subject to character requirements).
  • Citizens of visa-waiver countries/territories (a list including the US, UK, most EU countries, Canada, Japan, and many others) can enter without a traditional visa but must obtain a New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA) before travel. This applies to tourism, short business visits, or transit.
    • The NZeTA is valid for multiple entries over 2 years (or until passport expiry), allowing stays of up to 3 months per visit (6 months for UK citizens).
    • It includes payment of the International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy (IVL).
    • Apply online or via app; processing usually within 72 hours.
  • Citizens of non-visa-waiver countries must apply for a Visitor Visa in advance. This allows stays up to 6-9 months (depending on single- or multiple-entry), with requirements including proof of funds, onward/return travel, genuine temporary intent, health/character checks (e.g., police certificates if applicable), and more.
  • Special cases:
    • Chinese or Pacific Islands Forum passport holders traveling from Australia with an eligible Australian visa can use an NZeTA (trial/updated rules in place).
    • Transit through Auckland Airport may qualify for a shorter transit exemption in some cases, but most need NZeTA or visa.
All non-citizens (except exempt Australians) must also:
  • Have a valid passport (typically valid for at least 3 months beyond planned departure from NZ).
  • Complete a free New Zealand Traveller Declaration (NZTD) online or via app within 24 hours before arrival (covers immigration, customs, and biosecurity).
  • Meet health requirements (e.g., possible medical exams/chest X-rays for longer stays or certain countries).
  • Meet character requirements (e.g., no serious criminal history; police certificates may be needed).
  • Show sufficient funds (e.g., ~NZD $1,000/month) and onward/return travel plans.
  • Comply with biosecurity rules (strict declarations for food, plants, etc.; fines for non-compliance).
On Arrival and General Stance
New Zealand's stance is welcoming to genuine visitors but firm on border security.

Entry is not automatic — immigration officers at the border assess eligibility, may request evidence (e.g., return ticket, funds), and can refuse entry if requirements aren't met (e.g., doubts about intent to leave, health/character issues).

As of January 2026,

Requirements can vary, and airlines may deny boarding without proper pre-approval. Always apply early to avoid delays!

What happens when New Zealand finds a non citizen thats entered without approval?

If New Zealand immigration authorities (Immigration New Zealand, or INZ) discover a non-citizen who has entered the country without proper approval — meaning without a required visa, NZeTA (New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority), or other authorization — the consequences depend on how and when they are detected.
New Zealand's immigration system is strict about border integrity, and true "illegal entry" (e.g., sneaking in without passing through official border control) is extremely rare due to the country's island geography and rigorous airline carrier checks. Most cases involve people who arrive without valid pre-approval or are later found to be unlawful (e.g., after an initial undetected entry or visa issues).
Detection at the Border (Most Common Scenario)
  • If an immigration officer identifies the issue upon arrival (e.g., no valid visa/NZeTA, insufficient documents, or doubts about genuine intent), the person is typically refused entry.
  • They are usually detained briefly at the airport (often in a holding area).
  • The individual is then returned to their country of origin (or last point of departure) on the next available flight, at their own expense or the airline's (under carrier liability rules).
  • This is not formally a "deportation" but a refusal of entry or "turnaround."
  • A ban (prohibition on re-entry) may apply for a period (often 1–5 years or more), depending on the severity (e.g., fraud, misrepresentation, or prior refusals).
  • Entry is not guaranteed even with a visa/NZeTA — officers have final discretion.
If Already Inside the Country (Unlawful Presence)
If someone manages to enter (very uncommon without detection) and is later discovered (e.g., during internal checks, workplace raids, reporting, or routine interactions), they are classified as unlawfully in New Zealand under the Immigration Act 2009.
  • They become liable for deportation immediately upon becoming unlawful.
  • INZ may issue a deportation liability notice (DLN) outlining the grounds.
  • The person is usually required to leave voluntarily within a set period.
  • If they do not leave, INZ can serve a deportation order, leading to forced removal.
  • Possible detention in an immigration facility while arrangements are made (though not automatic for low-risk cases).
  • Deportation involves escorted removal on a commercial flight, with costs potentially recovered from the individual.
  • A prohibition on re-entry (ban) typically applies:
    • Up to 5 years (or longer in serious cases) for most deportations.
    • Voluntary departure before a deportation order often avoids or reduces the ban.
  • Appeals may be possible to the Immigration and Protection Tribunal (IPT) on humanitarian grounds, with strict time limits (e.g., 28–42 days depending on the case).
  • In exceptional circumstances, a Section 61 request can be made to the Minister of Immigration for a discretionary visa grant (rarely successful and no obligation to consider).
Additional Consequences
  • Criminal charges may apply if the entry involved fraud (e.g., using false documents), which can lead to fines, imprisonment, and permanent bars.
  • Future visa applications to New Zealand (or other countries) become much harder due to the record.
  • Overstayers (people who entered legally but stayed beyond visa expiry) face similar deportation processes, with over 20,000 reported in recent years — INZ prioritizes higher-risk cases.
New Zealand strongly discourages unlawful entry and emphasizes pre-approval to avoid these outcomes. Airlines often prevent boarding without proper documents, acting as the first line of enforcement.
For the most current details, always refer to the official Immigration New Zealand website (immigration.govt.nz), as policies can evolve (e.g., recent 2025–2026 updates focused on compliance and deportation settings). If this relates to a specific situation, seek advice from a licensed immigration adviser or lawyer.
