The US is something else, where those who control everything are, without exception, the rich.
You don't have median income politicians with just one car, and just one TV, and just one house, earning just enough to keep the family from going hungry, like most of the rest of the people of the USA.
In the not too distant past, politicial candidates in the US have had to sell their businesses and their house and car, just to fund their campaigns. And they did it because they believed in doing good for their communities. (These are the ones you want - not greedy self-centred billionaires).
But it's not like it used to be. It's all become about the money, and the status, and the power, and, to a certain extent, the competitiveness. These are exactly the people you do not want as alleged 'representative of the people'.
Your political pre-electoral circuses are unable to select the better representatives and they favour the liars, the manipulators and the showmen. Thus, all the good ones get cycled out quickly and replaced. And you end up with tyranny behind a 'smiley' mask.
Dude go criticize your own government for a change. You don’t think some of us payed attention to what your government did during Covid? Thinking you know exactly what’s going on in the US via your biased LW sources is humorous. You don’t kiwi.

They’re not stealing oil. Bella1, formerly Marinera which was recently acquired was in violation of their sanction agreements. Enough lies already.
“ NBC News reported last month that the Bella 1, then known as the Marinera , had been on the U.S. sanctions list since June 2024“

Safety precautions aren't loss of liberty. Corpses don't live in liberty and freedom.
I was well aware of what my government did during the pandemic. I was here.
Everyone under quarantine stayed in 4 star or above hotels and motels. There were no detention centres for quarantine or lockdown - none.
People under lockdown were still allowed out to exercise, and shop, and go to beaches, and parks. Just as long as they took precautions not to spread, or catch, the disease.
Our lockdowns were shorter than those in the US because, when there were no new cases in the general community - when we had stopped the spread of each outbreak - we stopped the lockdowns.
We totally eliminated COVID-19 cases among the general populace of the country three times, just by lockdown, quarantine, sanitisation and masking, before there were even any vaccines! (and you guys said those things didn't work, LOL. We aren't the only country that turned infections around, either).
It was only the final lockdown that had to be lifted because the disease had irrecoverably gotten out of control (Note: Two of the strains that contributed to those final uncontrollable outbreaks here - B.1.427 & B.1.429, originated in California. A third one, B.1.526, originated in New York - oops, it now looks like you guys were to blame???).
All of the mitigations to the pandemic were responses to an actual health emergency, and, in New Zealand, the mitigations all stopped - and the PM left office voluntarily before the end of her term - when the pandemic was over.
We have no fewer rights now than before the pandemic, and, as signatories to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, we have more clearly codified rights that US citizens do.
New Zealand have also had 2,550 total COVID deaths over the last 6 years, which represents about 0.048% of the NZ population. The US has had 1,239,654 COVID deaths over the last 6 years which represents 0.362% of US population, which is seven and a half times the NZ mortality ratio.
In fact, the United States is the country with the highest number of confirmed COVID cases and deaths out of all other countries in the world. It provably had the worst responses, and was worse affected.
Coronavirus (COVID-19) in the U.S. - Statistics & Facts
Provisional COVID-19 Mortality Surveillance
Almost everything that the US government tried was months late and piecemeal in implementation. Even Trump's (partial) closing of air travel from infected countries was after the disease was already spreading in the US (which explains why the closures had no effect at all). For the six months after that, Trump denied and took no actions to stop the already spreading disease but he actively disrupted medical support and funding to the individual states and to the WHO.
Why Did the Best Prepared Country in the World Fare So Poorly during COVID?
Also, and this is the kicker, there were people in the US who thought they were being patriotic and defending their rights and freedoms (what exact rights and freedoms are unclear), massed together in super-spreader protests, unvaccinated, unmasked, and they caused mass outbreaks and deaths, while waving their flags and shouting their slogans - 'effing lemmings, and they brought their country and the world down with them!
The whole world saw footage of, for instance, that Trump rally (because he loooves the limelight), at the hight of the pandemic, where several senators and representatives who were up on the stage died of COVID-19 within the next few weeks. I mean, WTF? Didn't you guy figure out why? We out in the wider world all knew, right from the get-go.
Stamford study: Trump rallies caused over 30,000 COVID cases, led to over 700 deaths
And you wonder why the lockdowns and masking didn't work there? Duh? It's because of sheeple without enough sense to take a little care to protect themselves and their loved ones who were actively spreading the disease and killing their countrymen.
And my sources aren't biased. Many are US government agencies official statistics and major peer-reviewed and highly credible studies.

I knew you were going to give me a long drawn out text defending your tyrannical government. I couldn’t even get thru all the bs in it.
My girlfriend lived in Australia at the time and their government was really bad, NZ was even worse, so spare me your usual long diatribe.
Besides it has zero to do with the topic of this thread.

Said the same thing to my son's woke leftist GF on New Years eve, when we invited them to a party at our home.
She stomped out, sulking and angry hours early.
Haven't heard from her since.

I get it.
Unfortunately he'll have to figure that out for himself.
