Not really.  The only way to forcibly reopen the Strait would be to control a strip of land hundreds of miles  inland from the Iranian coast. That's a chunk of land approximately the size of California.  It would take probably 50,000 pairs of boots on the ground, minimum, to make that happen.  If Trump had an appetite for that, it already would have happened.

It is pretty obvious he is perfectly okay with the endless war circus of "only 2 weeks away.".

But in terms of past United States "wars" or "extended military engagements" go...



I think his motivations for why he does things partly revolve around his cult of self. I think a part of him desires to end this at 13 fatalities so he can proudly brag about the 11th or 12th war he ended:

"And I ended the Terrorist Iranian Regime with the same number of deaths as Biden's Afghanistan withdrawl!" 

Hence, we'll be releasing billions of dollars to them at some point so he can say that.
