3. I'm curious where they'll go from there

I don't think they want the destruction of the planet either.  Enslavement is a different thing altogether.  (Note: they could've done both by now if they wanted).

We all pay half our wages in tax Roma.

Unless we are super-rich and have the ability to game the system.

They already have control and have enslaved our respective populations via money and power.

They listen to everything we say and do via a little black ceramic and plastic rectangular slab we willingly choose to carry around in our pockets. 

Why would "they" need the likes of Project Blue Beam or Aliens for effect? 

They already have us good and proper by the short and curlies. 

Seems counterproductive to rock the boat imho.
