Villarroel’s Sky Flashes Now Confirmed in New Data
#1
Remember this story... Who Was Orbiting Earth Before Satellites?

A new development has added weight to Dr. Beatriz Villarroel’s research into fast optical transients. In an independent study, retired NASA software developer Ivo Busko examined archival photographic plates from the Hamburg Observatory and found unusual light flashes similar to those reported by Villarroel’s VASCO project.

What makes this interesting is that Busko’s findings come from a completely separate mid-1950s dataset, using different telescopes and different instruments. That means these anomalous flashes are far less likely to be dismissed as quirks of a single observatory or technical glitch buried in one archive. Instead, the pattern appears to be repeating across independent datasets.

Villarroel’s work has focused on brief, point-like flashes captured on 1950s sky-survey plates, objects that appear suddenly on one exposure and then vanish, leaving behind no obvious conventional explanation. These observations were recorded before the launch of Sputnik 1 on October 4, 1957, meaning they predate the age of artificial satellites.

Taken together, the VASCO detections and Busko’s independent Hamburg results suggest that something unusual was being recorded in Earth’s skies well before the space age officially began.

Quote:Fast astronomical transients were observed by the VASCO Project (Villarroel et al 2020) in photographic sky surveys conducted in the 1950s. Those searches analyzed the Palomar Observatory Sky Survey (POSS-I and POSS-II) digitized plates. In this article, we present a preliminary report on a similar but independent search using archival plates taken at the Hamburg Observatory with the Großer Schmidtspiegel 1.2-m Schmidt camera, also from the mid-1950s.

So much for “research of no value to her peers or science in general” or however her research paper was rejected earlier this year.
