I think the system is, to a very large extent, what it appears to be: a muddling democracy with various levels of corruption. At the same time, I do think that there are key nexus points of power that are strictly controlled by non-public interests. And yes bribery and kompromat are used. More often though, the "politics of personal destruction"¹ are used, and the divisive nature of the system ensures that every politician can be smeared, from some particular angle. Just add money and a leavening smidgen of agitprop.
The theory for how this stuff works—controlling a large chaotic network completely by broad undirected influence and identified key positions—is a well-developed science. Much of the political climate in America right now, in my opinion, is a result of many of these sophisticated "hearts and minds"² technologies weaponized in the '00s in Middle East conflict coming home to roost in the backrooms of American politics.

Where was the opposition to the Covid policies? Except strangely for Sweden all first world countries acted in lockstep. Trump initially played it down but soon rushed out the Vaccines, people might protest things such as the wars in the Middle East, occupy Wall Street etc.. but the political class just do the bidding of their financial masters.
The famous quote by Mayer Rothschild is something to effect of, “I care not who makes a nations policies, for he who controls the money supply controls the nation”
Eisenhower and JFK warned us of the real powers behind the curtain, all sorts of shady organisations have been setup to shape society to their goals. Think of all the various groups that are known about never mind the ones even more secretive. The “Hidden Hand” moves everywhere and controls everything of import.
Their best idea was giving people democracy, which is nothing but mob rule and divisive at its core. How can 51% dictate over the other 49% and call it fair? Yet we see many elections which are that close, deliberately meant to alienate almost half of the population for the old divide and rule strategy. Yet people think they get a choice, a say in things, how ridiculous.
On here and the old ATS Karl12 amongst others does/did a great job of exposing these various groups and their shady machinations. Yet how popular are their posts? Barely a like or comment compared to the flame wars of the right and left. People of both sides have sensible and reasonable points but what’s brought to the forefront? It’s the extremes of both. So people pick up on these and end up throwing the baby out with the bath water.
I don’t exaggerate why I say the world not just America is run by utter bastards. The only reason it hasn’t collapsed is because of their sense of self preservation and to keep the gravy train running for as long as possible.
