I also don’t see it as a full on war just yet. If it gets resolved soon and they have a regime change it would just be a major bitch slap and beat down and not a war.

I don't think "Depose leader and hope you can play the situation as it goes" works out as well in practice. 

I truly think they knew, but completely ignored the possibility Iran would immediately regroup and deploy their last line of defense, closing the strait to "allied" traffic. 

I think too many things that couldnt be planned for caught them off guard and left them scrambling. Hence the endless contradictory statements packed with manipulative lesser magic. 

He spends so much time reassuring everyone "things are going as planned" it makes me wonder who he is REALLY trying to convince of that.
