I can rip on the nations where I ethnically hail from. And I could say whatever I want about the Vatican. You can't just say someone is bigoted for criticism of a nation mine helped form, one that is younger than my president. If I am critical of where my people come from, anyone else is fair game. This isn't about hate towards any one people. Most of the people who effect my life in a negative way would have the same passport as me. No one else is off limits. I'm going to be honest with you DB. When the older generation goes away, no one is going to have blind devotion to another nation, none of them. Acting like that is some sort of bigotry is only going to make any perceived bigotry worse. It's no different than liberals acting like you have to worship black and LGBTQ people. No we don't. I don't even worship people who look like me. People are people and some of them suck, some of them don't. Their shade or origin doesn't change that ratio too much.

I think for all the trillions of dollars spent in my lifetime abroad, it could be invested here. I'm libertarian and against spending, but maybe if we have good pathways for the youth to be educated in degrees and trades, it would benefit our nation. Maybe if most of our people had something to lose, they wouldn't do dumb shit. I'm going to level with you, I'm in my mid 30's. I know, you can probably tell or something. Second time in my life there is some narrative that we have to commit all of our attention to the Middle East as an existential threat to our nation. It just sounds so laughable. Could they hurt us, sure. Do I need to make sure we spend more resources on them than any one thing at home? That makes no sense when we are the most powerful military force the world has ever seen, yet we can't kill the Houthis, we spent 20 years to replace the Taliban with the Taliban, Iraq is a shit show, Syria has a guy we had a bounty on a little over a year ago, we literally gave Iran their first nuclear reactor, Bin Laden started with an organization we funded.... I know the history. Some people just want us to believe this time will be different.

I was in my junior year in high school when the shah was deposed. My first Middle East experience was when half my class became Iranian.

Since far back on the way-back machine dial...
Leaders both political and otherwise have made use of 'suppositions' of fear and drama to 'motivate' people's support for what they - choose one - plan/have/want - to do. Towards that end they have repeatedly urged us to see the truth, or alternately, created one to show us. All ultimately, in furtherance of their 'vision of utility.' Frankly, it's not working out for most of us. It doesn't even differ between the bad guys, the good guys, or just some clown... the idea that one political pretty face, agitating voice, or glowing leader can fix everything is a Hollywood joke. (Media even entertains us with the 'images' of their 'influence.') The veneer on this conflict is yellowed and cracked now... Some folks think their God wants us dead... we get it. The minute these folks 'got their own country' (a trick in itself,) exporting the hatred and vitriol became how they peacock.

I don't think this conflict is about liberating the Iranian people
I think it's more about reshaping geopolitical boundaries & alliances We are transitioning to a new system If this 'excursion' evolves to world war the winner(s) will redraw the entire global map

Night before last, while we were laughing at the antics of Trump and Bibi caught in the toils of their own devising, I said to my significant other, ‘I bet they try to land troops on Kharg Island next’ and we both fell about laughing at the thought of the two fools burying themselves even further in the quagmire. Today we learnt that two troop carriers full of Marines are on their way to the Gulf and Trump is claiming to have ‘totally obliterated every military target’ on the island. There’s no need to be an expert on anything except human nature to figure out what Trump will do next. American boots on the ground in Iran would be the stupidest next move, so put your money on that. By the way, ‘geopolitical’ has no hyphen in it. That’s right, I’m an expert in spelling, too.
