You should go ahead and call out the insurance company by name on that, because that kind of sucks.
The Toyota is called the Hilux Champ and it is about $13K in Thailand apparently, but it only comes 70% assembled, the customer has to build out the rest. Likely will cost quite a bit more in the US market due to safety and compliance changes. I really like the older small Toyota trucks, a friend used to have one, but apparently it is not street legal to sell them in the US any more!

Why not exempt ALL vehicles traditionally under 25k new? There's not many left, but the ones that are, are popular.
Like all Toyota, Hyundai, Kia that are traditionally "entry-level cars".
What if people don't want that specific exempted ugly truck? Most would try to find a used Tacoma before they'd ever buy that.
Young people need their safety tested affordable Elantras, and Corollas kept below 23k so they can afford the freaking loan. Because while they get assembled in the US parts are still outsourced.
I love the mindset and spin though.
"Since we're going to raise everything else beyond lower class affordability (new), here is the partially assembled crap we sell to 3rd world countries... Exempted for young people."

How do you know that won't eventually happen?
Thats the thing every sector and every item is up for negotiations. Industries and companies in both countries are talking with thier politicians so essential imports and exports get prioritized
I have no doubt the automotive industry has lobbyists and congresspeople ready to sponsor them in new negotiations on new terms, just as do other sectors.
We won't know how "bad" the crash will be until every item imported and exported's final terms are negotiated. I know my industry is looking for ways to mitigate costs already.
4-6 weeks tops on most sectors, except maybe the industries the President is trying to encourage domestic manufacturing, even then if he gets contracts or pledges for companies building here there still will be negotiations on tariffs till then.
Of course, till then they will let China blow in the wind as they negotiate better terms for America with every other country. Thats a good thing
You saw where they are trying to get DOGE 2.5 billion in savings earmarked for homeless veterans' housing, thats a good thing too isn't it?

if it's a Hilux then you should watch this video:
This guy goes over the truck that could be the one that is being talked about, but I will say that there are rumors that the "Chicken Tax" might get dropped and if so then a Japanese K-Truck might be what is being discussed.

a used one is just barely less expensive than a new one. It is insane.
and your looking at 40k for a truck. When I graduated college these were like 10k.
anways to your post I would DEFINITELY buy one of these at 10k a 20-40k used Tacoma. To get a used Tacoma down to 10k you are looking at 200k plus miles and like 20 years old.
I am not exaggerating much if any, here are the three cheapest on Carvana right now, Carvana runs about 2k over local market:
