Todays' Menu

Todays' Menu

Literal or metaphorical. I recall a couple of moderately active threads from other forums. One was "What are you having for Dinner?", and the other was "What are you doing? So, combined to a single via appropriate title to include the figurative as well.

I don't know yet what's on the literal menu for today, but Fathers' Day and a certain someones' birthday fall in very close proximity to one another, so I'll be going(dragged) a couple towns over to deliver some gifts and hang out for a couple hours.

I did see Chuck Norris advertising his new Morning Kick breakfast drink and thought about trying it, but it's only available online. I did tell a friend that works at a natural foods store about it and they matched the ingredients to a similar product. So I suppose that would at least be the "literal" breakfast "menu" for today.

Those yerba mate Tweaker vitamin shots are pretty good in the morning too. I don't even bother much with coffee anymore.

Five Pounds of Turkey Bacon

A friend brought back five pounds of turkey bacon because the cooler at work gave out. It's not like regular bacon, it cooks weird. I fried two packs and made a BLT, and she asked: "Do you like it?", and I said: "Yeah it's okay, but I don't think I want to eat five pounds of it.".

Bubba Burgers

This is the second time I wake up at around 4:00 AM and fry a burger because I didn't eat much the night before.

Dry pan with heat all the way up. If it doesn't grease the floor and smoke the house, you're not doing it right. I put the salt, pepper, and garlic on after it comes off and then the cheddar cheese. The typical condiments are mustard and ketchup, but I also put sweet relish on this one. A little pink is okay.

Further Exploration of Unventured Lands

I took up driving as a hobby back around 2018 when I purchased my first semi-muscle car. In the beginning I took hundreds of photos and would post them on whatever site I was currently partaking - mostly just nature photos. I later ditched the photography and switched over to a dashcam, but transferring the videos became a pain so I started using Facebook live; I would've used YouTube but Facebook was more straightforward with less requirements.

I suppose now I just drive for the sake of the driving itself. I enjoy getting out of the house for a while and traveling to remote areas. I like the minor g-forces involved with short bursts of acceleration, and I rarely drive at a constant speed.

Plus it is also interesting to experience people and places that I would otherwise be oblivious.

New Washer/Dryer Combo

I came on here an hour and a half ago to just say I was killing a few minutes while waiting for the delivery and just as I started typing I hear my friend upstairs yelling: "They're here!!".

They didn't want to deal with my custom-made window with the four-foot drop on the inside so me and my friend not only had to put the old appliances out but had to bring the new ones in as well.

The head guy told me that Lowes wouldn't let them do it, but my friend(who speaks Spanish) told me that he said in Spanish that "he didn't want to do it".

Whatever, it's almost a done deal now.

New washer and dryer day.

New appliance day! Woohoo!

About where are you that the guys are speaking Spanish?

I have a house with my wife in Mexico, and I’m here now, she is a doctor here and doesn’t want to immigrate to our home in Northern Alberta where I spend the majority of my time due to work.

She and her family are always introducing me to different styles of cooking from different states of Mexico and most of it is fabulous.

I have been introducing them to the food I grew up with, Alberta has a large Ukrainian/ Eastern Europe population from immigration in the 40’s. As well as Northern Europe, Irish (like myself), Scottish, Scandinavian etc.

I'm in central Maine pretty much. I can make the Atlantic coast in about a half hour. There's a few Mexicans scattered about here and there, and maybe moreso as of late. I didn't even hear the guy speaking Spanish myself, but unless the person they were talking to only speaks Spanish then it seems kind of rude.

This seemed like your typical scenario of employees not liking their job and just being there for the paycheck – I get it though. First mistake was trusting the guy to not let this big heavy custom window that I made to drop on the ground as I was tapping it out from the inside. That was a fail and it sliced my left index finger on something on the way down; he didn't say a word and quickly walked away, and that was a little weird.

In retrospect, there were a few things wrong with that delivery, but the washer and dryer seems nice though after all is said and done – it seems like alien technology in comparison to the old stuff. We're still figuring the washer out after a couple test runs. It does seem to shake a little on the spin but not too bad. I did check it with a homemade level(cup of water with a line), and it looks pretty close.

I've been indulging a lot of burgers lately. I don't usually care for burgers much but these Philly Gourmet Beef are the best!!

I'm Irish on my fathers' side.

Cheers

I don't know if these comments fit here or not, but I read your thread and it caused this response:

1.   Why does bottled water have an expiration date?

2.    Why does both Mexican and Pinoy cuisine use the term "adobo" and it doesn't mean the same thing (although both contain vingegar)??

Along those lines, this afternoon's yum-yums were Filipino pork kabobs, adobo mushrooms with spicy cole slaw.

Kabobs:   Pork butt, carved into 1" pieces, marinated overnight in a mixture of soy sauce, fresh ginger, banana ketchup, Datu Puti vinegar and garlic.   Banana Ketchup???  WTF???  Yep, that's a thing.   It is exactly what it sounds like an is delicious.    Pieces threaded onto bamboo skewers, put on the barbeque grill and basted with banana ketchup and sesame oil mixture.   Absolutely delicious.   No dipping sauce needed.

This is just a spinoff from the "What are you doing?" type threads. 1 and 2 from above seems like "Random Thoughts" material while the rest is a literal "Menu" and quite fitting in its present place. It can be a figurative "Menu" as well, like, "Today I'm going to blow this taco stand!!".

A Little Habanero Hot Dog Snack

So I thought I would have a little snack before hittin' the road earlier, and I opted for the Johnsonville Beef Brats. I saw this little brown bag that had these cute little yellow/orange peppers marked: Habanero.

I was thinking one of those Habaneros might be good diced up as a topper for the beef brats, so I got to preparing my snack, and even the cat came to hangout as she usually does and also for the ocasional handouts.

And after about a minute in my left eye started burnin' and twitchin', and got me to thinking about whether or not I should maybe be reformulatin' this little "snack" idea I got goin' on here.

I could sense and also feel the danger, but when all was said and done they were actually really good and flavorful.

The heat scale was just off the charts and judging by the way the cat exited the kitchen I think she may have gotten into a little bit of it as well.

I remember back in the 90s my Uncle got a splash of "Dave's Insanity Sauce" in his eye and was crying for hours. It was one of the first super-hot sauces I recall ever seeing.

I like the El Yucateco green habanero sauce. Extremely hot. Not for the weak of heart.

Have you ever tried anything with ghost peppers in it? Back when they first hit the scene, a co-worker bought a big bag full of them and we had a ghost pepper eating contest. Whew! Those things... the burn... it goes beyond pain to numb.... then it keeps going.... nothing stops it. Not milk, not bread. You think it can't possibly get hotter - then it does. Takes about 20-25 minutes to wear off. If you're constipated, it'll all be coming out that night!
