The Saturn Ringmakers
#1
I know I am going to be called crazy for this, but here goes anyways because I find it compelling. So I had two separate friends, at two separate points in my day yesterday, bring up the Saturn ringmakers. I looked at them both like 'what the hell are you talking about?' One of my friends sent me a very compelling video last night.

Here is the gist of it, apparently there are massive objects creating the rings of Saturn. They came in with some estimates of these 'machines' being 70 miles wide. They consume the material in front of them. Then eject some type of plasma exhaust as it moves through space around Saturn. The Voyager probes caught images of these 'machines' in the act. Quite a few pictures I might add. You will find those in the last video. Additionally, the probes recorded Saturn making very loud metallic mechanical noises.

There was a book written about this by a guy names Norman R. Bergrund. At one point in time, the book was selling for $2000 as it's hard to find. His credentials are staggering. Here are some of them:

"Norman was educated at Cornell University with post graduate study at Stanford University. Upon moving to the Bay Area, he was a scientist at Ames Research Center. Mr. Bergrun played an active role in all-weather flight, as well as the control of high speed airplanes. He later worked at Lockheed where he managed a team that analyzed Polaris missile tests. Subsequently he became fascinated with outer space and did extensive research while developing his own theories. In 1986, he published a book entitled Ringmakers of Saturn. Over the years he found true enjoyment in music, was an avid skier, had a passion for photography, and was well known for his stylish bow-ties."

Here is a very poor interview with him, as I think the interviewer is a moron (I believe its the only interview with him).

And here is the meat. The guys voice is kind of annoying at the beginning. It does get better.

I come from a family of mechanics.
I was not here.

At what time? I don't have the time (or patience) to watch the whole thing.

If they are the ones I think they look more like a kind of photo artefacts, as they appear on the edges of the photos.

Not possible, in space no one can ear your screen or any other sound.

Oh, you mean the Shepard moons? Each group of rings has some. They orbit at the edges of the rings an stabilize them along with keeping the rings from clumping up and forming moons.

But the real question about Saturn is the name itself. Saturn, satyr, it looks to have horns in some parts of its orbit. The rings were not visible before the telescope was invented. Now who exactly named it for having horns that could not be seen?
I know too much and question everything.
Does anyone know the minimum safe distance of ignorance?
Did anyone ask the monkeys how much fun the barrel actually was?

First decent image is at 23:40.

They purposely crashed the Cassini probe into the atmosphere of Saturn. That is how they heard the loud noises.

They are referring to radio frequency sounds not audio sounds. Many things in nature make radio sound. Thunderstorms on Earh are a local example.

No not moons. Watch the last video I posted. It shows many pictures of the machines. They are ejecting material.

Thanks.

Confirmed, that is one of the images I was thinking about.

It's either radio or sound.

I suppose some people get confused because they, sometimes, convert the radio signals to an audible version, usually, by slowing it down some thousands of times to get to the frequencies we can ear.

Yes, hearing them as sound after converting them to the correct frequency band to be heard is the easiest way to interperate them. It makes comparison easier also because they are no longer just squiggles on an oscilloscope.
