Tomb of Beermaker to the Gods discovered

Egypt is an archaeologically active country (as you can probably guess) and although we don't see much about it, there's a lot that's discovered about it each month.  While clearing up the courtyard of a large tomb, they came across a new tomb that belonged to a beer maker who brewed special beer for the gods (and the pharaoh) and who was in charge of the storehouses of the pharaoh.

The article concludes with a note that robberies of archaeological sites have been a problem in the past and that the new site is, thankfully, under heavy guard.

Interesting stuff, Byrd. Thanks for posting.  It's especially fascinating when we consider how important beer was to the Ancient Egyptians; I recall reading that it was quite common for day labourers to be paid part of their wages in the form of a beer allowance. Getting a couple of jars of beer at the end of a hard day's work in the hot Egyptian sun would've been very welcome!

I think we often misinterpret the presence of beer in society due to a western prejudice.  I think it was more akin to a warm food substance than a frosty inebriant. (Plus, I've heard it was comparatively foul tasting... or rather "an acquired taste.")

I often fret over the constant presence of looters from "outside" and "inside" the archeological effort to recover the past.  

This find might be one of the few times we get a look at how things were, without tripping over some looter's footprints, or losing evidence to someone out to make a buck on the black market.  Fingers crossed, so to speak.
