Speculation: what archaeological sites will be found in the near future?
(09-15-2025, 09:25 AM)quintessentone Wrote: Also 'untitled map', could that be Atlantis?

"Atlantis" was the name of a area, a division, or as Plato stated Allotment of land/sea.  Today we might see it as a country.

Yes, I suspect these ruins are in the Allotment of ancient Atlantis.   Akjoujt has a lot of digs going on.  Some very interesting things there.  This town would have been on the shore where the fleet was stationed.  I suspect this inland harbor was filled with mud out to the ocean.

Here is one of them.  This could have been a dock facility of some sort.

This is one is 10 miles east of Akjoujk.

The "Ringed City" was its capital city.

Red dot is Akjoujk: https://i.imgur.com/o21DSNd.jpg, elevation is 1,000 meters? Not sure about that. So where was this ocean?
So now we have to pretend that sea levels were 1,000 meters higher 11,000 years ago than they are today and forget the established fact that they were actually 120 meters lower.

It's just getting more and more moronic.

Maybe there are wild mysterious and conspiracy theories about this that can explain it?

Are you sure that the measurements are correct?

Of course not.
But I AM sure they aren't backwards.
Sea level was definitely lower in the past, not higher.

The Levels are generally correct.  The Entire region of Mauritania is "Bowl Like", in that it has poor run off, which by its very nature would encourage the development of large lakes, inland sea.

Folks want to jump to the conclusion that it was once a ocean is because of the Ocean Sand that is found there.  There are other alternative possibilities how the sand got there.

Suspected in Mali 570 miles from the Richat there are two suspected ancient Islands with clusters of ruins on them.  Again no other ruins are found in lower elevation.

Just to confirm, that this site and the island sites are in NW Africa right?

Plato's description of the location of Atlantis was 'just beyond the Pillars of Hercules' (Strait of Gibraltar), so it's close by, am I on the right track here?

I suspect you've never read what he wrote and have just repeated what other people told you about Atlantis - NOW read what he actually wrote and then take the time, carefully and slowly to compare that to the Richat

This is what Plato actually wrote: ". But one of them exceeds all the rest in greatness and valour. For these histories tell of a mighty power which unprovoked made an expedition against the whole of Europe and Asia, and to which your city put an end.

This power came forth out of the Atlantic Ocean, for in those days the Atlantic was navigable; and there was an island situated in front of the straits which are by you called the Pillars of Heracles; the island was larger than Libya and Asia put together, and was the way to other islands, and from these you might pass to the whole of the opposite continent which surrounded the true ocean; for this sea which is within the Straits of Heracles is only a harbour, having a narrow entrance, but that other is a real sea, and the surrounding land may be most truly called a boundless continent.

Now in this island of Atlantis there was a great and wonderful empire which had rule over the whole island and several others, and over parts of the continent, and, furthermore, the men of Atlantis had subjected the parts of Libya within the columns of Heracles as far as Egypt, and of Europe as far as Tyrrhenia.

This vast power, gathered into one, endeavoured to subdue at a blow our country and yours and the whole of the region within the straits; and then, Solon, your country shone forth, in the excellence of her virtue and strength, among all mankind. She was pre-eminent in courage and military skill, and was the leader of the Hellenes. And when the rest fell off from her, being compelled to stand alone, after having undergone the very extremity of danger, she defeated and triumphed over the invaders, and preserved from slavery those who were not yet subjugated, and generously liberated all the rest of us who dwell within the pillars.

But afterwards there occurred violent earthquakes and floods; and in a single day and night of misfortune all your warlike men in a body sank into the earth, and the island of Atlantis in like manner disappeared in the depths of the sea. For which reason the sea in those parts is impassable and impenetrable, because there is a shoal of mud in the way; and this was caused by the subsidence of the island. https://www.gutenberg.org/files/1572/1572-h/1572-h.htm

Yes, all the images I post are from NW Africa.  The "Detractors" want Plato read word for word, no deviations.  And they do not want you to consider errors in ancient translations, unintentional mistakes, or the fact that the writings are over 2000 years old involving two different time keeping systems, one based on the Moon, the other based on the Solar Sun.  If you look at where the Richat is, it is just past the Pillars, looking east to west.  Plus, the rest of Plato,s retelling is lost, so great flexibility must be taken when reading.
Yes, it is close by.  You can have "Islands" in a Inland Sea.

Now North East of the Richat, 500 miles is another suspected Island in present day Algeria.

Closer to the Richat, in its nearest "Suburb", Quadane, ancient ruins atop a Island in a Wadi, which would have been a river back then.  18 miles to the South West of the Richat.  (Tiftil)

And to the South of this island by 1/4 mile, what can only be viewed as a "Boat Dock". (Fort)

Why would you not read the only source for the Atlantis myth?

I actually did read that source from Plato a very long time ago when I was interested in following those that tried to locate the site of Atlantis.

Why didn't I read it again and only skimmed the beginning of Plato's description of it's site, you ask? Because I was thinking that Plato mentioned that Atlantis was a large Island in the Atlantic Ocean that sank into that ocean and I was going to research whether or not a large land mass West of the Straits of Gibraltar and NW Africa did once exist at an earlier date than Plato's time. But then I decided it would be a futile effort because people/adventurers/archaeologists more knowledgeable about this topic than I had already tried and failed to find it, so my effort would be futile.
