So, Why DO We Get Fat?

Then I don't really eat dinner.   I will cook a good meal, 3 or 4 nights,  but it is for hubby and my lunch the next day.  I'm  just not that hungry in the evenings.
Although in the winter, I snack.  That is mostly out of boredom though and I catch myself and stop.
Now that I'm getting older, I am a lot more conscious about what I eat.
Currently trying to kick the pop habit.
Drinking a lot more herbal tea's.

I finally asked my doc for a recommendation to a nutritionist.  It's helping.

That is so true.
People have to be honest with themselves because they learn fairly easy over time what foods they should avoid basically because they have some negative effect on their wellbeing. Just make a solid decision to avoid them regardless of how good they taste. There always comes a time when you will break down, but be smart about it.

I am a diabetic, and I know that sweets are a no no, however I still crave for certain candy and pastries.

I have learned that moderation is the key.  A Milky Way can be like a dose of crack is to an addict. Enjoy 1 a month and it will never hurt you. The same with everything you are not supposed to eat.. but know you will eventually. Just delegate it to one bad-for-you meal a month. You will look forward to the day you can have it and your body will reward you for all the time you did not have access to it.

Yes, the doctor who took out my gall bladder said I was prediabetic and had a fatty liver stomach ulcer among other issues but diet and just a little exercise, and I got off blood pressure and prostate meds over 5 years ago. I back-slide some sweets get me too, but the intermittent fasting worked for me. Once I get in a groove I look forward to my salad and chicken breast or fish usually salmon and an occasional baked potato a day. The hardest part Im a night eater so I push my meal time to 6-7

Looking to get a decent smoker to use on I can live off smoked chicken or salmon.

I think it’s cuz there’s a big bloody mass, forming a Red Sea, growing in everybody’s digestive system, for parasitic purposes, and these suckers are quite intolerant to sugar, among other things.

This would be why people have a harder time burning sugar as they get older IMO

That is why I go monk mode. I’m getting a bit younger every day.

But GOD DAM i have been shitting out nails and teeth for the past almost 7 months, as this Legion refuses to vacate my temple, now almost 3 years of me serving my eviction notice, the fighting continues to the last tooth and nail, and my jugular was attacked this past Friday. 2 months ago bitch tried to paralyze me, and then tells me I brought it on myself. Then last month she tried to jack me in my sleep, and my legs went numb for a bit.

That said, I eat whatever food I want. All food is good for fuel to the battle worn Monk Mode turning his back.

The older we get the less energy we use, so we don't need to eat as much as we did.

What a bad idea. I only went on a diet once in my life, it lasted about 2 weeks, I lost 15 pounds, then immediately had my first heart severe heart attack.

I quickly began eating like a voracious bear and horse once again, abandoning the foolish idea of cutting calories.

It may have been a bad idea for you (or badly implemented), but the only time I was on a diet I lost 30 Kg and didn't have any health problems because of that.

Math

Burn more than you consume and fat gets burned, simple. It's got to be more than just a day here and there, it must be consistent, the body will adjust to the stresses put on it.

Look at the old time farmers:

Up at dark thirty, 3-4 eggs, 1/2 pound of bacon, sausage and potatoes. Biscuits or toast, maybe some gravy with a pot of coffee.
Get to work, and I'm talking back-breaking physical labor,,,all day every day (except Sunday).
Light lunch then back to the grind.
Too tired to eat big by the evening meal.

They'd take in 3-4k calories a day, mostly with the morning meal and burn at least double that.

Simple math

Of course, that's not accounting for a genetically high metabolism but a calorie deficit lifestyle will drive the metabolism higher naturally.

Hippocrates: “Let Food be Your Medicine, and Medicine be Your Food”.

CR = Calorie Restriction
DRM = Dietary Restriction Memetrics
RSV = Resveratrol (polyphenal - found in grapes (highly concetrated in red wine))

This study more so is along the lines of longevity, but it seems that is also mentions fat reduction being associated in dramatic overall health and aging improvement.

Quote:Apart from the tentative prediction of a positive effect of CR also on primate longevity, importantly, actual proof of the effectiveness of CR in this and other species is its demonstrated capability to delay the onset of age-related diseases. In particular, in all three studies, CR reduced body weight, fat mass, and decreased indices of risk for cardiovascular disease and diabetes, such as blood pressure, blood lipids and C-reactive protein, while increasing glucose tolerance, and insulin sensitivity [41, 43-45]. The
WNPRC study also showed that also cancer and age-associated muscle mass loss (sarcopenia) were delayed and/or attenuated by CR [41, 46, 47].
-----------------
Even if the CR regimens generally applied to man are not in fact particularly restrictive (about 1800 Kcal/day) [62, 71] it is difficult for most individuals to respect them, particularly in the long term. Moreover, some disagreable side effects have been reported, such as a lowering of the body temperature [ 256] and reduced circulating sex hormones [257] possibly causing a decreased libido, together with some changes that may be health threatening, such as decreased bone mineral density (although this has been reported not to reduce bone quality) [258], or slowed wound healing [259]. For these reasons, increasing interest is now being shown in the search for organic or inorganic compounds able to elicit the same beneficial effects on aging, health and lifespan as those of CR, by activating the same metabolic- and stress-responses as CR does without decreasing food consumption, in particular in the mid- to late-life periods. In other words, to find compounds that can mime the biological effects of CR, often called CR mimetics (CRM) or dietary restriction mimetics (DRM).
--------------

LifeGen Technologies, in collaboration with the Swiss-based DSM Nutritional Products, have created ResVidaTM , a high-purity form of RSV for use in many types of dietary supplements and in food and beverage formulations. Consumption of ResVidaTM for 30 days has been found to induce changes in the metabolic profile in healthy obese humans, mimicking the effects of CR [318].

Forgot to include this graphic which gives a good picture of how caloric reduction is beneficial.

CONCLUSIONS
The pharmacological or nutritional manipulation of endogenous cellular mechanisms leading to the activation of cytoprotective genes of the cell life program, and to the down-regulation of inflammatory and oxidative processes, is potentially a novel therapeutic strategy for age-associated diseases, which might help to achieve healthy prolonged aging. In the light of subjects’ poor adherence to continuous low calorie restricted diets, studies aimed at determining the feasibility and efficacy of natural and/or pharmacological CR mimetic molecules are ever-more-numerous. However, in the words of the Italian novelist Alessandro Manzoni, "Ai posteri l'ardua sentenza": only posterity will be know whether these prospects prove true or illusory.

So, I am doing intermittent fasting, which is not eating at night and into the next day for 16 hours or more. It's really not that hard to do but my issue is eating high caloric, small meals 2X within the remaining period of time. It keeps my weight stable, but if I really wanted to lose a lot of weight, I would eat lower caloric foods, more so keto, and drink only water (which I do not enjoy).
