Unbalanced diets, overeating, poor sleep, stress.
Fortified fluids... Drinks with carbs and sugars and snacks keep the body in "I'm eating here" mode.
It's a complex question these days, diets are stressful and most people diet due to a belly. Yet, there's a chance cortisol and cholesterol is high due to stress, I'd say don't lose sleep over it or you might get... Never mind.
Health, happiness and diet. 3 things that don't necessarily get along and all 3 play crucial parts in weight gain. It makes me conclude that achieving an ideal state of mind is probably more important than attacking the issues individually.

We're not asian and turn 40?
Processed crap and proliferation of fast food. We love saturated fats and prepared foods. Sodas and snacks. What changed is that. The increase of that goes with increased waist line.
I swear I found a joke diet based on racist stereotypes that works and tastes great.
"The Passage To Bangkok" Diet. Only not about weed. Where you eat food from some of those same poor countries. Vietnamese soup like Spicy Tofu Pho, Thai Curry (both with steamed rice), middle eastern food like pita or doner wraps, salads, which can all be vegetarian or not, all low in fat, and it's actually all easy to make. Pho is simple. Just get the broth and hoisin and sriarcha sauce. Curry is simple, and all really cheap after you buy the spices.

You get fat and overweight because the quality of the food you eat is very poor, your organism process that food to separate nutrients and useful substances from the toxic and unnecessary waste and gets to be eliminated through your back end and skin.
At some point your body has a too much toxic crap and isolates that in fat so it doesn't contaminates and mess with the internal functionality of organs.
Keep eating crap, keep getting fat

I lost 1 stone in 2 weeks!
But that was due to Salmonella poisoning and I wouldn't recommend it....
I now know why I am called a grown up. Every time I get up I groan.

Fat as the norm started when they put profit over health (yay Capitalism!)
I would guess this started around the time they discovered that certain defoliating agents could be used as a sweetener

(03-09-2025, 06:29 PM)UltraBudgie Wrote: Hmm well eating to much can add weight, and sure if you fast you can lost weight from that, but doesn't most weigh loss happen from breathing? O2 into CO2. Transpiration. That's why exercise helps.
See, the Illuminati have everyone convinced that it's what you put in your face that matters, when really fatness is a result of improper breathing. That way they can sell you weight-loss plans that only work temporarily and pills for life haha. There's probably something in American air. That's it. Chemtrails make you fat. I'm finally connecting the dots.
I'm really not kidding about this. Dieting will help you lost water-weight, but carbon-weight only leaves the body through breathing.
Quote:Majority of weight loss occurs 'via breathing'
According to researchers from the University of New South Wales in Australia, when weight is lost, the majority of it is breathed out as carbon dioxide. Their paper is published in the Christmas issue of The BMJ.
Prof. Andrew Brown and Ruben Meerman reported widespread misconception regarding how weight is lost, finding physicians, dietitians and personal trainers all equally guilty of not knowing. Most believed that fat is converted to energy or heat, “which violates the law of conservation of mass,” they write....
https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/287046
From the paper:
Quote:Lifting the veil on weight loss
At rest, an average 70 kg person consuming a mixed diet (respiratory quotient 0.8) exhales about 200 ml of CO2 in 12 breaths per minute.4 Each of those breaths therefore excretes 33 mg of CO2, of which 8.9 mg is carbon. In a day spent asleep, at rest, and performing light activities that double the resting metabolic rate, each for 8 hours, this person exhales 0.74 kg of CO2 so that 203 g of carbon are lost from the body. For comparison, 500 g of sucrose (C12H22O11) provides 8400 kJ (2000 kcal) and contains 210 g of carbon. Replacing one hour of rest with exercise that raises the metabolic rate to seven times that of resting by, for example, jogging, removes an additional 39 g of carbon from the body, raising the total by about 20% to 240 g. For comparison, a single 100 g muffin represents about 20% of an average person’s total daily energy requirement.
Physical activity as a weight loss strategy is, therefore, easily foiled by relatively small quantities of excess food.
Our calculations show that the lungs are the primary excretory organ for fat. Losing weight requires unlocking the carbon stored in fat cells, thus reinforcing that often heard refrain of “eat less, move more.” We recommend these concepts be included in secondary school science curriculums and university biochemistry courses to correct widespread misconceptions about weight loss.

I am 50, I weigh 180. 6’1”. Everyone is different.
I do not eat red meat. For me I feel terrible after red meat. I never overeat even when I am hungry.
I don’t count calories but I just limit my eating.
Walking 3 miles per day at Planet Fitness helps, it’s on a treadmill but I enjoy music and it goes by fast.
Be kind to everyone!

More cardio. Exercise does help you lose weight if you do it consistently. I lost like 50 lbs in boot camp back in the day cuz we were running all the time.
I hate running so these days what I do is a combination of pushups and barbell curls at home and walks with the wife after dinner.
walking loses a lot of weight. Just one hour of 3 miles a day works wonders. Then the treat if you can is hiking on the weekends.
Also lowers stress and increases oxygen and breathing.
Pushups are great cuz they are both cardio and muscle training.
Diet is important but its nothing without exercise.
Our human body is made to move move move all the time.
And I hate exercise, it just feels good after I make myself do it.
