Rare UFO-shaped Clouds over Wales

Afternoon DI colleagues.

Being unsure where to post this it ended up in Aliens & UFOs but Mods feel free to move if required.

Surfing the news and come across these tidy pics of "UFO Clouds" and decided to share.

Enjoy.

This is  perfectly fine for a discussion here within the UFO forum...

I just wanted to make it clearer that this source is not referring to UFO's but things often cited as looking like a UFO.

As serendipity would have it, I was just learning about this cloud the other day from the NASA site. Cigar-shaped UFO cloud (?) lol

"Rugged terrain on New Zealand’s South Island gives rise to a distinctive lenticular cloud formation, known locally as the Taieri Pet."

"Lenticular clouds form when prevailing winds encounter a topographic barrier, such as a mountain range. Wind that is forced to flow up and over the mountains creates a kind of wave in the atmosphere. Air cools at the crest of the wave, and the water vapor it contains condenses into clouds. Conversely, falling air leads to warming and evaporation.
“The Taieri Pet is a common feature found in the skies near Middlemarch, Otago,” said meteorologist John Law of New Zealand’s MetService. Here, strong winds from the northwest pour over the steep-sided, flat-topped Rock and Pillar Range, which runs almost perpendicular to those prevailing winds. “As the cloud forms on the crest of this wave, it remains almost stationary in the sky and is shaped by the strong winds blowing through it,” Law said."

While driving with my daughter the other day I remarked, using my painter's eye, how the clouds looked unreal and if I painted them that way one would characterized the scene as surreal.
"The only journey is the one within."

Those are perfect camouflage for any conveniently shaped UFOs...

I wonder if they would purposefully keep away from those...

Just to stir things up a bit for fun.... North Wales coastline and Anglesey was a hot spot passage for UFO's back in the '70's & '80's. RAF Valley were regularly sending their jets up to track them as they came in from the Irish Sea, turned left at Liverpool up towards the Lake District to Glasgow and then a gentle right turn up towards Aberdeen and the NE of Scotland..... every single time.
Are we sure all of them are lenticular clouds?  Biggrin

I bet they weren't all lenticular clouds!

This particular phenomenon is a top ten favorite in the "pareidolia" line-up of first-line reactions to someone seeing anything in the sky that is called a "ufo."
