I have a question related to scripture and what does God want?!
In Matthew, where it talks about
"Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison."
And
"Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:
But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.
And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also.
And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.
Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.
Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust."
Does this mean that despite something being unjust and unethical that I should not do something? Should I turn the other cheek and wait for God to do something? What if it is in defense of someone else?
How do you guys interpret this? Am I supposed to continue just praying on this and wait?
Is the last part there about how God makes the sun shine and rain fall on everyone good or bad just telling me that everybody has bad times and good times and nothing really will happen to bad people. The same things that happen to good people happen to bad people and it all means nothing in the scheme of things? Is it telling me to mellow out and not even worry about anything because it's all just chance whether it is rainy or sunny? I mean metaphorically not literally. I think metaphorically is the right word for what I mean.
It makes me think of this tool song.
"Someone told me once that there's a right and wrong
Punishment was sure for those who dared to cross the line
But it must not be true
For jerk-offs just like you, and
Maybe it's just bullshit
I should play God
And shoot you myself
Tired of waiting, oh
Consequences dictate
Our course of action and it
Doesn't matter what's right
It's only wrong if you get caught
If consequences dictate
My course of action, I should
I should play God and just
Shoot you myself
Tired of waiting"
I mean. If the verses in Matthew are telling me that I shouldn't do anything and just wait for God to do something, but that God makes the same random things happen to everyone at one time or another and those things have nothing to do with people's good or bad actions, then it seems all random.
