I do.

Of course he was, William too and no doubt Ann will have put in her pennyworth too!
I'd love to have been a fly on the wall to hear Ann's opinion!  Lol

Now that, i can believe.
"Yet so it is, we see the illiterate bulk of mankind that walk the high-road of plain common sense, and are governed by the dictates of nature, for the most part easy and undisturbed. To them nothing that is familiar appears unaccountable or difficult to comprehend."

I just read it somewhere -- in regards to Harry.  That they wouldn't take away his birthright.

Britain did it before (English Civil War) and didn't like it's replacement, they decided it was a bad idea, so they bought them back but stripped royalty of it power.

Quote:
The execution of King Charles I dealt a severe blow to the authority of the British monarchy and signaled the end of the absolute rule of the monarch. In the aftermath of his death, England was declared a republic, known as the Commonwealth of England, and power was vested in Parliament and a council of state. However, the experiment with republicanism proved short-lived, and in 1660, following the collapse of the Commonwealth, the monarchy was restored with the ascension of King Charles II, the son of the executed king.
Despite the restoration of the monarchy, the events of the Civil War and the execution of King Charles I had lasting repercussions for the British monarchy. The Glorious Revolution of 1688 further curtailed the powers of the monarch and established the supremacy of Parliament. The accession of William III and Mary II to the throne, following the overthrow of King James II, ushered in a new era of constitutional monarchy, characterized by the principles of parliamentary sovereignty and the rule of law.

Andrew should be locked up in the Tower of London.

The Royal family has much more to be concerned about than the inevitable fallout from this situation.

Thia is a PR, media event... expected, and exploited as usual...

The Prince, has no recourse now but to make the changes necessary to withdraw... or prolong a very expensive production, that will only escalate... in light of 'other' recent events.

I have no doubt that an enormous degree of "concessions" and "preconditions" exist outside the record... and rightfully so... no matter the title, it's still a family into which only the family has a rightful say... at least, I would think.

I doubt that justice, ever elusive, will actually be ours to know...  The media industry is squeezing billions from this... a matter of law... in due process.... like it was reality TV.

MOD NOTE: I'm done with losing discussions to partisan garbage... no more...
I am asking all of you to actually avoid inviting and responding comments on the
political shit show in the US... there is a designated place for it.

I shall return.

This thread is about Prince Andrew and the English royals.
Yet you jump in off topic with talk about Trump and tariffs.    Lol
Do you have anything to say about the actual topic .... Prince Andrew and the English royals.

Pure Monarchy is a relic for women's magazines and ceremonial occasions.

We have better systems of governance now, even where there are still some legacy monarchies, they generally don't do the job of day-to-day governance.

Essentially, under the Westminster system, monarchies are a check on elected governments. Like an independent branch of government that doesn't do much else other than reign-in those who don't have the better interests of their constituents in mind.

In Australia, when the government went into shutdown back in 1975, the Governor General, a representative of the Monarchy, removed the Prime Minister and his government, forcing a new snap election and resolving the reasons for the shutdown. Democracy and full governmental function restored by the monarchy. Who'd have thunk it?

No detraction from accepted and legal process is intended...

I hope the citizens were OK with it... and not just the media drones.

Actually a fun exercise, in a "magical thinking" sort of way. Which seem to be popular among the generation elite:

"Keep the tongue away from the teeth whenever possible."
