New Year's Eve Cancelled?
#21
I don’t do “amateur” hour. Stopped going out for New Year’s Eve ages ago.

Currently sitting in the dark (power outage) — not uncommon here. Cold and rainy. No heat.

On call for the kid who’s at a friend’s house.

I do keep my phone charged at all times. Kinda necessary in an iffy power area.

In the UK they blocked off all access to Primrose Hill, previous years lots of people have gathered there to get a good view of the London fireworks as it offers a great panoramic view of the city. This year they have closed it all off, bear in mind this is a public area. They cited safety concerns, although the only real trouble they have had there in recent years was a fatal stabbing in 2023.
The cynic in me believes there is more to this and they didn't want a mass gathering in a place that wasn't policed, possibly due to intel of a planned attack, either that or Sadiq Khan doing what he does best and sucking all the fun out of everything he can.

I think most elderly people just bring in the new year quietly and in reflection, well I do any way sharing with my people.

How cold can it be in Cali? Are you still experiencing extreme weather there?

No, it's here that we "thank" the people that create bogeymen to point people's attentions elsewhere.

The reason for the closure might be due to the likes of this happening last year.

Cold is relative to where you live. I’m in high desert CA. It was 40 degrees in the house. Power was out for about 4 hours. Not unusual here. I keep bins of blankets & have small flashlights handy.

Wind is the biggest issue here. My house is alone on a hill so nothing blocks the wind. The house is solidly built.  Can hear the wind but not feel it inside.   It was rainy and foggy last night. Terrible driving weather.

How was your New Years?

Mine was good, texting my kids happy new years and getting into deep discussions, watching China's drone shows (not bad, somewhat simplistic, but what do I know about orchestrating a drone show lol) with my partner. Nice and quiet.

Did you manage to connect with the kid?

Well as long as the wind didn't get inside then it should be an easy job of getting warm and cozy. As a prepper did you know that putting tealight candles in muffin tins not only provide heat, light but you can also heat water and/or cook on it with think cookware to at least make a pot of tea? Squirts of hand sanitizer in the muffin tins will create a firey inferno, if that interests you.

Wish I could have meaningful conversations with my daughters -- but they're not interested in this kind of stuff.  One -- kind of -- supports Trump because her redneck co-workers do -- but I'm getting through to her.

The "kid" had to stay at his friend's house over night due to the rain and fog.  Good experience for him in the long run.  He had some issues but they were able to calm him down.

I do have a lot of prepper stuff -- just need to organize it better.

And the powers out again.

Yeah, I just organized all my fire prepper stuff in an easy to find container that I could find in the dark.

That's good they were able to calm him down. I remember one of my daughter's girlfriends wanted to do a sleepover then for some unknown reason (on the spectrum?) just panicked.

I am sure you are getting through to her, but I also think just how everything is becoming more unaffordable as per what average people there are saying, that should convince her.
