Monaco, Paris, Sydney, Tokyo, Bali, Belgrade, Hong Kong, Jakarta etc.
All in 'lockstep' cancelling their New Year's eve celebrations.
Pretty unprecedented stuff and some of the reasons issued by public relations are so asinine as to be meaningless.
Homicidal religious fanatics are mentioned in this clip but if anyone knows any 'global' reasons then please post.

Thats a shame.
Where im from, it's generally the weather that's responsible for Hogmanay cancellations.

Wow! I always watch Sydney on NYE morning due to the time difference. It’s usually the first one that is broadcast here.

It kind of looks like a fear of giving radical terrorist groups a large number of potential victims in one spot. Understandable in a way, but if we all succumb to those fears then the radicals win.
We in Canada don’t really worry too much about the weather, I’ve taken the family out when it’s been -25°C or colder. We just bundle up and ensure we have hot drinks and a warm place to go. Fireworks don’t usually cause a lot of problems when everything is covered in snow!!
It’s unfortunate that it has become such of an issue, especially when New Year’s Eve celebrations are really not seen as religious events, but rather as an occasion for everyone to see the old year out and usher in a new year with the hope and expectation for a more prosperous and stable future….

The reasons seem legit to me. SADNESS
The Sydney fireworks happen at Bondi Beach.
Hong Kong is still thinking of the big multi building fire.
Bali is mourning a big earthquake in Sumatra.
I remember how sad I was on Thanksgiving. The Hong Kong fire was still an ongoing story. I felt ashamed watching the Macy Day Parade.
The year will roll over on the calendar even if there are no fireworks. It's not like we're going to be stuck in 2025 forever.
There's a reason you separate military and the police. One fights the enemies of the state, the other serves and protects the people. When the military becomes both, then the enemies of the state tend to become the people. - Commander William Adama

Part of me wants to lean into cynicism... wondering how the world, comprised of hundreds of thousands of human population centers, can 'make it appear' that "we're cancelling the calendar" because we're scared.
When it comes to safety in crowds of 1,000 plus... it's usually sheer luck that keeps stupidity from ruining the event. Of course, not every traditional celebration can proceed as if the whole world were a Disney production...
People who 'celebrate' together will find a way... they always do...
The way this is presented... some people 'want' to be afraid, some 'want us' to be afraid, and some just want to spoil any moment in time to 'teach us all a lesson.' And fear sells, draws attention, and opens doors to all manner of 'fanning the flames' of the 'story.'
"Terrorists, thieves, violent gangs, drunks..." are everywhere in our 'celebrations,' we should take no time to connect in such a scary world.
Hell, the FBI actually courts and nurtures bad guys just for the eventual press release material (and proof of their 'essential place in our world.').... they bad guys are so 'plentiful.'
And we have learned that we at least should always fear each others diseases... COVID the killer taught us that...
So if a few places here and there have pressing matters affecting this, we should make it into a 'global crisis' story... click click click. Maybe we can taint New Year's day forevermore.... an activist win. Maybe, once again, weak leaders and opportunist media can create a thrilling 'show.'
Where we all cower behind a glowing screen waiting to be told when we can peek out at the world... as we are told to, of course.

If anyone lives in any of these places you could always organize your own i think, like on bondi beach for example, right? They just arent having a city provided event?

Fear and more fear. We have to be afraid of something, it’s the law. Christmas in the UK has been watered down to a festive dribble, in case we offend a few sand shufflers. Doesn’t matter if it offends the majority, we don’t count.
New Years Eve cancellations are just more of the same. Instil fear. It’s frankly pathetic now and people should open their eyes and see what’s really going on. THAT is the really scary thing.
