Nato intercepts Russian warplanes violating Estonian airspace

Quote:Three Russian warplanes that violated Estonian airspace have been intercepted by Nato, the military alliance has said.
Estonia's foreign ministry in Tallinn condemned the incursion as "brazen". It said three Russian MiG-31 fighter jets entered the airspace of a Nato member "without permission and remained there for a total of 12 minutes" on Friday over the Gulf of Finland.
Nato spokesperson Allison Hart said the military alliance "responded immediately and intercepted the Russian aircraft", calling it "yet another example of reckless Russian behaviour and Nato's ability to respond". She gave no further details.
The Russian military has not publicly commented on the issue.
Tensions have escalated between the Nato military alliance and Russia since Moscow launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
They have risen in the last week, after Poland and Romania - both Nato members - said Russian drones breached their airspace.
Estonia's foreign ministry said it summoned the Russian chargé d'affaires "to lodge a protest" over Friday's incursion, while top EU diplomat Kaja Kallas described the incident as "an extremely dangerous provocation".
In a statement, Estonian Foreign Minister Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna said Friday's incursion was "unprecedentedly brazen".
He continued: "Russia's increasingly extensive testing of boundaries and growing aggressiveness must be met with a swift increase in political and economic pressure."........

....Last week, Poland's military said it had shot down at least three Russian drones, with prime minister Donald Tusk saying 19 drones were recorded entering Polish airspace.
Russia insisted the incident was not deliberate, and its defence ministry said there had been "no plans" to target facilities on Polish soil.
Belarus, a close Russian ally, said the drones which entered Polish airspace were an accident, after their navigation systems were jammed.
Several days later, Romania's defence ministry said it had detected a Russian drone when two F-16 jets were monitoring the country's border with Ukraine, after "Russian air attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure on the Danube [river]".
The ministry said the drone later disappeared from the radar.
Russia has not commented on the issue.

Russia seems to be upping it's game of provocation with these recent incursions, as posted in the other thread Russian drones in Poland. these don't appear accidental in nature. I stated that perhaps Putin is trying to force NATO to respond to these incursions, blaming any protective action as an attack on Russia. Russian propaganda and it's control over the media will allow Putin to push any kind of narrative onto the Russian people.

Russia's incursions into Poland, Romania and now Estonia does appear to be deliberate in nature. What's does Putin think he can accomplish by stoking more fires?

What exactly happens during an interception of this kind? I'm not into war/military protocols in the air.

So this now answers that question of whether or not Putin's drones accidently ended up in Poland's airspace.

Is Putin getting desperate considering his oil refineries are being blown up at a high rate?

The Russian people have no gas for their cars.

Fighter jets are scrambled to approach the aircraft, then Fighter jets and sometimes the control tower attempt to make radio contact with aircraft. That's when usually the 'enemy' aircraft turn back.
I do think Putin is starting to get as little reckless with his attempts, and he could possibly trying to to create a bigger crisis to play his own population.

I was wondering if anything had happened while I was on holiday, with peace talks.

Zelensky refuses to negotiate/cede territory, and refuses to go to Moscow for talks

Putin refuses to talk anywhere but Moscow.

So they will never agree. Meanwhile Trump wants to help end it and says they absolutely hate eachother
Quote:
"The hatred between Zelensky and Putin is unfathomable," Trump told reporters. "I think I'm going to have to do all the talking... they hate each other so much, they almost can't talk."
Trump said he initially believed negotiations could be arranged easily, but added that he would personally lead any talks, as the two leaders "are incapable of talking to each other."
His remarks follow his Aug. 15 summit with Putin in Alaska, after which he pledged to prepare a meeting between the Russian and Ukrainian presidents.
Those plans quickly faltered as Putin invited Zelensky to Moscow, a proposal Kyiv dismissed, and later said an agreement over occupied territories was "impossible."
Zelensky also reiterated that he would not travel to Russia for negotiations.

Putin claims that any agreements with Kyiv over the occupied territories must be confirmed through a referendum, as mandated by the Ukrainian Constitution. To achieve this, the martial law currently in effect in Ukraine would need to be lifted.
Zelensky has rejected recognizing any occupied territories as Russian de jure, calling it a "red line" that Kyiv will not cross. Ukraine's Constitution states that the "territory of Ukraine within its present borders is indivisible and inviolable."
Putin also said that he is ready to meet Zelensky only in Moscow.
“If they (Ukraine) want to meet with us, we are ready. The best place for this is the capital of the Russian Federation, the hero city of Moscow," Putin said.

They should be more afraid of the F-35 that they never see that’s not part of the intercept package.

Quote:Ukraine-Russia war latest: Moscow says Estonia incursion a ‘scheduled flight’ after Trump warns of ‘big trouble’Russia has claimed the incursion of three fighter jets into Estonian airspace was in fact a “scheduled” flight carried out in “strict accordance” with airspace rules.
Three Russian MiG-31 fighter jets entered Estonian territory on Friday night where they remained without permission for 12 minutes, the Estonian foreign ministry said.
Following the latest in a string of Russian incursions into Nato territory - following recent drone incursions into Poland and Romania - US president Donald Trump has warned of “big trouble”.
"I don't love it. I don't like when that happens. Could be big trouble,” he told reporters, adding that he was yet to be fully briefed on the situation.
The Russian military said the three jets made a “scheduled flight” in which the aircraft stayed on an agreed air route and did not violate Estonia’s airspace, passing instead over neutral waters.
Estonian foreign minister Margus Tsakhna said that Russia had already violated Estonian airspace four times this year but that Friday’s was “unprecedentedly brazen”.

As usual Russia are trying to claim that it was a scheduled flight, but as these incursions have now happened several times now, I'd say Russia isn't expecting any consequences when it makes these manoeuvres.
