As usual Russia are trying to claim that it was a scheduled flight, but as these incursions have now happened several times now, I'd say Russia isn't expecting any consequences when it makes these manoeuvres.

A lot of excuses being made by people that the corridor along that area is narrow, so they just got lost and accidentally flew into their airspace.

I do think Putin is starting to get as little reckless with his attempts, and he could possibly trying to to create a bigger crisis to play his own population.

When they say they 'escort' them out of their airspace, is that the same as cops using their cars to 'escort' bad guys in cars to stop? Or are there any instances of the intruding plane wanting to push their way out of the escort? I may be thinking of TV war plane fight scenes where they do all sorts of stunts to get out of certain situations.

Usually once the interception is made everyone plays nice. There have been a few instances where someone has been nudged, and a few idiot moves by Russian and Chinese pilots, but for the most part it’s very civil. Once upon a time Russian crews would try to get American crews to take their phone numbers and call them, and American crews would hold up Playboy centerfolds. There’s even a very well known intercept, with pictures that have never made the light of day, where an F-14 intercepted a Russian aircraft, with the RIO wearing a gorilla mask.

I think Zaph is the better person to ask, he has tons of experience with the subject.

But I'll give it a go....

An aircraft will intercept the 'enemy' aircraft and try to fly along side, but can also include visual contact and radio communications, there have been some close calls, but usually it's never as dramatic as the the movies, but can be a 'lock-on' warning to deter the 'enemy'  The intruder usually moves off.

lol Did the playboy nude pics make them play nicer or did all the blood rush from their heads and they thought they'd better high tail it home?
