Multiple Russian Tu-95 bombers burning a massive Ukrainian FPV drone strike
"You are not a subject matter expert and I don't take orders from you."

Not giving you any "orders".

But I must bow to the superior knowledge of a random self proclaimed aviation expert on the internet.

I am not the subject of this thread.

Any "expert" view on the TU 95 upgrades, like, on topic?

A handful of times?

Any source for that?

55 are (or were) operational.

Not much that I could find detailed their use lately but the google AI summary had this to say.
Quote:
  • Sporadic Use:
Tu-95 bombers have been used to launch cruise missiles at targets in Ukraine, but not continuously. For example, they were used to launch cruise missiles at the Havryshivka Vinnytsia International Airport in March 2022 and at Kyiv in June 2022, according to Ukrainian sources.

I did see a link that reported Ukraine's AF said they saw 11 rake off on a day they were hit with CMs but can't find it now. I am also mid loadout for a show so don't have time to dig in again and find it.

Again though...I think we can agree that this was a waste of a very clever strike. Minimal damage and the target was not of significant importance to the war. They aren't the only platform CMs can launch from and they are used way less than most other airframes with the capabilities to launch CMs. Had they used this strike to hit plants making the missiles it would have done much better for them.

I think we need to call a real actual aviation  expert, like Zaphod?

Based on the daft execution, I imagine he's telling the truth. Like you said The US and Russia have an agreement to leave the bombers out and to only have a certain amount operational. Its why we have a bunch of B-52Gs sitting in the desert, instead of having a whole fleet of over 200 B-52Hs. Despite the comments from the peanut gallery, very few Bear bombers are functional despite what Wikipedia says.

You mean that treaty that Russia suspended in 2023?
Thank you, Zaphod.

No...I looked at it when you posted it the first time...it just says so with nothing other then their word not even according to unnamed sources. Thats about as good as me just saying it wasn't. Like I said before I did.see one article out of about 50 that cited the UAF saying they saw them take off on radar. Which is at least cited...but without something to actually probe it I trust that about as much as I trust if Russia just said nah it wasn't.

These attacks were watched by people that monitor Russian radio frequencies. In multiple attacks 16+ Bears were heard launching from Engels and other bases. They were tracked through the attacks on Ukraine.

Like the saying from Starship Troopers...yes I would like to know more. Is there somewhere that talks about this or anything I can go read up on? I like to stay informed and with a war its hard to trust anything without verification. The whole thing started with 40 planes destroyed...now its more like 8 and only 3 have been confirmed beyond repair. Not that I don't trust you, actually if I was going to believe anyone it'd be our resident aviation expert...but I would also like to stay up on other attacks in the future as well.

The best source has been Twitter. I’ll try to find the threads about it later tonight after I get caught up on other stuff.
