More than 50 countries have reached out to the President to begin tariff negotiations
Trump's new 100% tariff on non US made movies:

BBC News - Trump says non-US movies to be hit with 100% tariffs

What, like Gladiator II, Wicked, etc?

Can someone explain this to me?  Or, even, justify it?

I remember when ATS used to say regulation was bad. When we all noted how Obama hijacked old acts to abuse executive powers that’s shouldn’t be present.

the moral of the story is most people in America don’t care about regulation or executive over reach. They just want it when they’re in power.

Real libertarians don’t want one person to have that power, because all it takes is the wrong person to really hurt us. If a party wants something done, they should vote it through. If they cant, than they don’t have the mandate to.

What is even more bizarre is that movies are non-tangible goods, intellectual property, and therefore not subject to tariffs.

Mr Trump's social media post:
Quote:The Movie Industry in America is DYING a very fast death. Other Countries are offering all sorts of incentives to draw our filmmakers and studios away from the United States. Hollywood, and many other areas within the U.S.A., are being devastated. This is a concerted effort by other Nations and, therefore, a National Security threat. It is, in addition to everything else, messaging and propaganda! Therefore, I am authorizing the Department of Commerce, and the United States Trade Representative, to immediately begin the process of instituting a 100% Tariff on any and all Movies coming into our Country that are produced in Foreign Lands. WE WANT MOVIES MADE IN AMERICA, AGAIN!

The bit about "messaging and propaganda" is interesting. I mean, of course Hollywood movies are propaganda and pro-empire mental programming. But to come right out and say it? Memetic protectionism? I guess that's where we are now.

And I guess any international competition is now considered a "National Security threat"? Or is it the potential loss of (so-called) narrative control that is the threat?

They’re saying the quiet bit out loud. They are against things that don’t fit with their agenda.

The “freedom of speech” party has already gone after students who protested against Israel and had them expelled.

The party who was against Soros had an immigrant donate more to a single campaign than any o can think of, then they gave him a position of power in the government.

The party who was against government officials using private channels for communication now uses an Israeli clone of signal to conduct themselves.

Thr party against taxes just implemented the biggest tax increase in recent history via tariffs. This part really blows my mind because that’s not even the power of the president. He used an emergencies act intended for war like situations to levy trade war on the whole planet, which will directly impact American citizens and their purchasing power.

What bothers you is a trillion-dollar movie industry that produces progressively worse movies and TV shows, and gets extra tariffs when it doesn't film in America?

US Studios accounted for 64% of the UK's film production.

ABSOLUTELY and POSITIVELY, US Studios should be incentivized to film productions in the US

My state has huge studios and does major TV and Movie productions, and has huge incentive packages for productions. Why should it lose US productions? It could easily be handled domestically instead of being produced in the UK

Especially with CGI and AI advances, there will be less and less need for on-location films, and I love most of the UK productions

President Trump's tariffs became very real for importers last month as the government collected more than $17.4 billion in "Customs and Certain Excise Taxes" during April.
That was nearly double March's haul of $9.6 billion, dwarfing the smaller spikes in revenue seen during Trump's first term.

All told, the duties have deposited more than $70 billion into government coffers since Jan. 1.
"As Billions of Dollars pour in from Tariffs ... we’re only in a TRANSITION STAGE, just getting started!!!" Trump said on Truth Social Friday.
He could be right. April's data will perhaps provide only a glimpse of what's coming. The biggest tariffs — 10% duties on nearly every country in the world — took effect on April 5, with plenty of additional tariffs promised for the months ahead.

JUST IN - Temu halts shipping direct from China as de minimis tariff loophole is cut off — CNBC

JUST IN: TEMU has announced they will begin sourcing and shipping products directly from the United States instead of China due to Trump’s tariffs The company has announced they do NOT expect to raise prices. This was President Trump’s goal, and he’s meeting it!

Who pays these tariffs?  Isn't it the US importer?  And ultimately the US consumer?

It doesn't seem to be China, etc, or do you think it is?

Just another tax on Americans, no?

Or am I misunderstanding?

Or, maybe, you are?

Not at all.

What bothers me is that MAGA cult members automatically defend every bonkers thing your Administration spews out.

Good luck with your new isolationism.

I find it hilarious that one would let other people's thoughts on any subject, they don't even know, upset them.

But this has been mentioned before. This is the atmosphere now, both sides perpetuate it.

Is that your new nervous and paranoid Mary word for the day?

Doesn't even fit the definition, America imports and exports too much to be called isolationists, FFS.

Well past the time when our most sensitive trade agreements were renegotiated. Before all of this, there were talks of adjustments in our industry because COVID had affected volume and the sales cycle.

But everybody gets pissy because Trump did it ...

So, who do you think actually ends up paying these tariffs?

You claim to have some kind of import business.

So, that would be you.  Not China?

And your customers?

If you still have any?
