hmm that site is sus, fed says avg chicken $4.05/lb in June 2024 now $4.24/lb in June 2025....
https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/APU0000FF1101
also from same graph price has increased 26.6% in the last five years
but that is moot for me because i find what you can buy for that price has become so water-injected chemical laden sadness filet that i've just switched to the $9/lb stuff which is somewhat better and am eating less of it

Perhaps Im wrong, but
I thought the consumer price per pound is for all chicken meat-related products, not just the organic bird meat you throw on your grill
I mean, I love my cat and dog, but the chicken they eat isn't the $9 a pound stuff

yes i noticed the price difference there and it was because one was anychicken and the other was breastfillet.
used to get my cats "great value" chicken cans at walmart
they really liked it
now they won't touch the stuff :(
dunno what changed
dog still likes the greatvalue ham though
one cat died earlier this year; sad he was goodcat, and the other one is 5lb little 18yr old who eats like tiny amount so i still get her good catfood and crunchies although i wonder what is in the cat treats i give her because she totally jones for them and i am thinking i need to ween her off them haha

Since the source came from STL I spot checked Schnucks and found it is currently $4lb dollars for 2 breasts and #3lb for 6 breasts.
$2.89 / lbSchnucks - Fresh Natural Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts Value Pack
Schnucks is a Locale chain, both walmart/sam's and aldi beat them on pricing most weeks. So the source is showing prices that a single person would pay if they decided not to use their freezer. I think the real issue is it should cost the same regardless of packaging size.

The rumor mill behind Trump's potential abolition of the IRS is growing...

Trump once again reminds everyone that the objective of the tariffs is to get rid of the IRS, and thus income tax. I find it hilarious that most Libertarians are calling for the impeachment of the guy who is working to get rid of the IRS. How ironic.

So Trump is closing or close to closing extremely favorable trade deals with Japan and Indonesia.
Both Indonesia and Japan saying they will open up thier markets to US goods is huge. Japan buying America for its defense is huge for the MIC
Who else is left that is a significant trade partner? Europe? South Korea?

"The US agreement is particularly good for Japan's auto giants like Toyota, Honda and Nissan. Previously, American importers had to pay a 27.5% levy when they shipped in Japanese cars. That is now being reduced to 15%, potentially making Japanese cars cheaper compared to the likes of rival China.
Having said that, US automakers have signalled they are unhappy with the deal.
They are concerned they have to pay a 25% tariff on imports from their plants and suppliers in Canada and Mexico compared with Japan's 15% rate."
What the US-Japan trade deal means for Asia and the world
What happened to "American First"? Toyota may export their new 2026 EV which sells for a base price of something in the range of $18,000. Just how will the American automakers take that?
"Alongside negotiations with the US, countries might start looking for more reliable partners elsewhere. On the same day as Washington and Toyko announced their agreement, Japan and Europe pledged to "work more closely together to counter economic coercion and to address unfair trade practices," according European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
The European Union is yet to agree a trade deal with the US.
"We believe in global competitiveness and it should benefit everyone," said Ms von der Leyen."

for perspective...
Quote:In Q2 2025, battery electric vehicles (BEVs) accounted for 7.4% of new car sales in the United States, down slightly from 8.0% in Q2 2024 and nearly unchanged from 7.5% in Q1 2025. For the full year of 2024, BEVs represented 8.1% of total light-duty vehicle sales, up from 7.3% in 2023. When including hybrids and plug-in hybrids, electrified vehicles reached 20% of U.S. new vehicle sales in 2024, with 1.3 million BEVs and 1.9 million hybrids (including plug-in models) sold.
Not to mention, 1/5th of the automotive workforce in America is employed by Honda or Toyota, so we can't just cut off Japanese firms that have been part of the US economy since the 70s. It's always been a balancing act, and probably will be for a while.
It will be interesting to see how good or bad US automakers do in Japan.
You never know what will do well in the Asian market, American muscle cars, for instance, could boom
Regardless the US has other advantages in the trade deal that offset the US automakers' initial concerns
