lol the nyt really is shameless
Quote:Inflation accelerated in June as President Trump’s tariffs started to leave a bigger imprint on the economy, keeping the Federal Reserve on track to hold interest rates steady when policymakers next meet this month.
The Consumer Price Index rose 2.7 percent from a year earlier, the swiftest pace since February, data released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics showed on Tuesday. That is slightly higher than expected and up from an annual pace of 2.4 percent in May.
“Core” inflation, which strips out volatile food and energy prices and is seen as a reliable gauge for underlying price pressures, also shifted higher. Those prices were up 2.9 percent from the same time last year.
Over the course of the month, prices rose 0.3 percent, a notable pickup from a 0.1 percent increase in May. Core prices rose 0.2 percent.
The June data still reflects only the initial impact of Mr. Trump’s global trade war. https://www.nytimes.com/2025/07/15/busin...-june.html
love how in the opening para they confuse velocity and fluctuation with acceleration, sidelong attribute it of course to trump's tariffs, and imply their stance of federal reserve action as being 'on track'.
here is graph at top of article
yes that three pixel variation at the far right is what they're neurotic about, and pay no attention to the elephant a half-inch to the left...

I also look at other factors, such as plain old political cover ups and/or lying to promote agendas.
Thank you for the graph, I may disagree that any of those sources comes close to neutral at least we have an established playing board. Also I imagine to get the graph you had to upload the image which resulted in a url, would you be able to post that url so I can add it to my built in deny ignorance notepad area, they also have good merch, please like and subscribe.
I don't dismiss what the average person is saying, I was actually shock by the amount of groceries I was able to get the other night for just over 100 dollars U.S.. I felt like I was getting more than i have in some time but publix was having some pretty epic bogo deals on a lot stuff I like. The thing is I can't just solely go off what average people are saying as the facts can become distorted and it's not always an intentional distortion but none the less human error occurs in that source.
political cover ups, lying and promoting propaganda....... pretty sure this has been a 2 way street.
It's good you call it out when you see it but it is also good for you and others to get called out when you are doing the same. So stomping around saying you will only accept independent sources is you and the "others" saying you will only push the sources that conform to your political ideologies aka propaganda.

I consider what people are saying about how they 'feel' inflation to be independent opinion, as for independent data well finding the truth within that realm is the real challenge now isn't it?
I don't have a horse in the race, but I am seeing propaganda from both sides and this is why I am saying, listen to the people's experiences on the ground. BTW, the tariffs haven't even really taken full effect yet, so more data/stats to come after August 1st.

July 10 Updates:
YouTube 'Clarifies' Its Plan to Demonetize Spammy AI-generated Videos YouTube is trying to calm creators after backlash over an upcoming policy change that many feared would tighten monetization rules across the board, especially for AI-generated videos, reactions, and content using clips.

food price anticdata is useless because if you aren't changing your buying habits enough that the cost fluctuation year-to-year is well beyond the margin of inflation, up or down, you're getting sucked into the trap of declining quality vs fixed price, the trap of shrinking quantity vs fixed price, or the trap of fixed brand-loyalty habit vs rising price. supermarkets are frickin psychological war zones, everything has been gamified and algorithmized. you have to be on the knife edge of changing buying patterns constantly or they're going to rip you off or poison you. i have no clue how much of my food budget has changed due to rising costs, changing brands due to realizing they've turned to shit, or eating less. i've started buying things like rice in bulk, for example, not only cheaper but necessary because i'm cooking more things from staples. just can't trust packaged or processed food any more, if you ever could.

Chicken priced at 2.06 in 2024 is NOW 2 PENNIES MORE
But panicked over tariffs America does import 82,000 metric tons of broiler meat, BUT AMERICA consumes over 18 million metric tons so increased costs from Canada or Mexico tariffs will be minuscule.
Like Trump said about Milk from Canada, we don't have to buy milk from Canada, but we do it as a favor to them
