Mexican navy tall sailing ship collides with Brooklyn Bridge
#11
Fox News update. Two have passed away. Two are still critical. Nineteen total injured.
I know too much and question everything.
Does anyone know the minimum safe distance of ignorance?
Did anyone ask the monkeys how much fun the barrel actually was?

Two sailors of the Mexican Navy who were critically injured tonight in New York City, when the mast they were standing on aboard the ARM Cuauhtémoc (BE01) collided with the Brooklyn Bridge, have since passed away, with at least 25 others remaining in critical and serious condition in hospitals across New York. It appears that the ship was under tow or at least had a pilot onboard while leaving South Street Seaport, though the reason that harbor authorities, the ship's crew, and the tugboats didn’t realize that the mast of the ship would impact the bridge is still not fully known.

If it was a traditional tall ship, it wouldn't have gotten stuck in full reverse. I'm sure it'll come out that they attempted to move out of the moorings without a certified pilot at the helm.

There was speculation on Fox News that the pilot was not a docking pilot but a harbor entry pilot. As they were leaving the harbor, they needed a pilot more familiar with the harbor entrance.

I think it might have been more that the pilot was not familiar operating a tall ship or one that big. Any other ship would probably have been fine with that pilot.

I have questions ...

So did they sail in a different direction? And avoid the Brooklyn Bridge, or was this all tidal-related?

Some one is going to get their pee-pee slapped for this for sure.

No the ship backed up under power in the opposite direction it was supposed to leave.

They came into dock on the same side of the bridge as the harbor opening. They docked bow in for display purposes. That is backwards from normal ship docking. They backed out of dock under diesel power and tug assisted to not turn too soon. They then turned down stream in the river to head out. The tide was coming in at 1.5 to 2 knots, the wind was also blowing upstram at around 10 knots. When the tug released from the stern, the ship turned quicker by the tide and wind forces.

It is speculated at that point ether the variable pitch prop failed to switch to forward by control failure or the pilot failed to work the controls. That part is under investigation.

It was shown in the videos that the ship was still under power when it hit the bridge, in reverse. The tug was trying to get behind it but was unable to do anything to help before the impact.

So it is ether mechanical control failure or pilot error.

Yeah, I forgot the Brooklyn Bridge was right there. What a completely avoidable human error cluster....

I like, I dunno, thought like, the mast was like, shorter? or something?
I got confused converting feet to metres. Like, we had like, some space, right?

Hoping its really not as simple as that.
