Yeah, it begs the question that there does not seem to be a lot of brush/trees there, so what exactly is burning?

I do enjoy how every story gets looked at through DI sunglasses, but certainly, they have discovered a disintegration ray that would leave just a whiff of smoke from the now floppy extra-terrestrial biological entities.
