I have worked in fully remote indigenous communities all over Alberta and the NWT.
Regardless of what anyone thinks about how LGBTQ etc people are treated, they are treated as Two-spirit people and are protected and respected.
This is not about transgender rights or issues.
This is about a mental illness that required proper treatment. Full stop.
Mental health facilities are sadly lacking in anywhere that is not a large city. There are a lot of problems in small communities where drugs and alcohol are much more prevalent than any mental health services.
I speak from direct experience…

I despise people in my demographic who commit heinous crimes more than those with acute mental health issues. And every demographic also has significant portions with acute mental health issues, we can argue ratios, but it's still too high
The US has plenty of plastic surgeons, but we need a massive influx of psychiatric help, before we start cutting stuff off our bodies, we need to understand what that does to the human mind..

The Mayor there is stating that the community was 'one big family', so if that is true then I can only focus on the quality of mental healthcare that the shooter and his family received. I don't agree with transitioning a child, considering one's brain does not fully develop until 25 plus years, not to mention one's emotional and life's seasoning to help direct one's decisions in life.
They have no motive at this point in time. Investigations are still under way.
Why do I feel numb?

Unfortunately, Canada's health care system is letting a lot of people down, especially in such a small populace, and probably even more so in terms of mental health.
It is a small town, so the mayor described it well, everyone knows everyone. Very sad event, the RCMP are going to have to answer why the guns were returned to that home, specifically due to this kids long history of mental health issues, with threats of violence and self harm. I'm all for gun ownership but they shit the bed on this one.
It's not an expected thing to happen in Canada, so I think it's normal to feel numb.

Real or not? I don't know if one can fake YouTube upload dates.
Wait, and didn't the shooter last year have a Wounded Warrior Project sweatshirt too? Weird.
I saw this too..super creepy.

Additionally, there is the question of, or the process as to why, the firearms were returned to a seemingly repeat mentally ill episodic (?) and hospitalized individual supposedly on medications (for what? transitioning and mental illness together?).
Rod Giltaca of the Canadian Coalition for Firearms Rights wants an investigation into the process but the RCMP say their files are sealed (is this another 'save our asses cover up'?).
Giltaca believes the firearms should not have been returned to what he believes was an inappropriate situation involving the shooter and also wants an investigation into the psychological medical processes which led to the firearms being returned.
I want to know about these processes as well because authorities (meaning the RCMP) are suppose to do a thorough background check before allowing gun possession at all.

It's really difficult to undertake the idea of
walking in the shoes of another.
To be ostracized is a very damaging thing.
It eventually isolates you from even yourself.
There is a wicked reaction to it...
But then... self-perception is like a drug in in the intoxication it brings.
I can never forgive the act...
I suppose in some way this is likely a byproduct of abuse.
I'm so sorry for all who feel this closely.
Would it be cruel to recognize that we go through this too... it hurts.

From what i saw reported, he shot his family at the rink. He had nazi tats on his arm, very odd looking person, major identity crisis.
I believe he made some posts that indicate this was some kind of response to Tumbler Ridge.
