Keto My Way
#11
I highly recommend using beansprouts and pretending they are noodles it works very well for me. They are low in carbs and high in fiber. I recommend cardio exercises you can do from a chair if you can not move around to do regular cardio. Cardio will increase your keto. If you are retired I would recommend 30 minutes of brisk walking in the morning afternoon and night and you will be burning all day and night long just about. You would probably easily enter a calorie deficit that way. Depending on your portions of course.

Great tip, thanks.

Thank you!   We actually grow our own mung beans, and sprout some of those.   I'm a fan of Egg Foo Yung.   You can sprout your own also from Mungo or other store-bought dried mung beans.  Probably can sprout nearly any bean or legume seed, but I don't know which of those are edible.   I don't feel that beansprouts are a good fit for me as pasta replacement,  but I will experiment with that.  I would like to be able to make keto tortellini, chow fun noodles, etc.   I can make very good noodles when I'm not using keto.  Chow fun noodles are easy, made with rice flour and so delicious, but alas, not right now.

I'm glad you talked about cardio, and you're very right.   Excellent point.   In my case, keto fell flat without exercise.   I swim and walk, and my regular job is somewhat strenuous.  Cardio is something I've only recently entered into.   A kickstart in the morning, even if I have to get up early.

Today, for my cardio, I dug a three-foot hole, two foot deep.   I dug up a struggling six-foot mango tree, and yanked it out of the ground.   I washed off its roots, trunk, branches and leaves.   It has been struggling to live, since we errantly planted it in a zone where coconut roots run amok.  I like that word - Amok.   If I ever again form a punk/metal/rock/whatever band, we will name it that.

I transplanted the suffering mango tree and added powdered seaweed to the dirt and watered it thoroughly with rainwater.

You have to push for keto to work.  In a few minutes, I will do a Bowflex 30-minute workout.   I started this mostly to keep the muscles around my ruined right shoulder snug.  I am liking how my pectoral feel (that's what she said) and lats and quads, traps and deltoids.  Tomorrow my Darlin' and me are going into the water to thrash about and swim and have fun and burn calories.

I consider myself to be pre-diabetic, although my doctor doesn't agree.   I think a low-carb diet will be my forever huckleberry.

I followed a strict keto diet a few years ago and lost weight, but I missed certain foods, so for now I incorporate some keto practices but I cook for my partner as well as myself, who does not want to follow a keto diet, so that makes it difficult to keep up. Plus weekend Summer meals are BBQ and rich creamy salads, so it's difficult to give that up too, although I do portion control.

For instance, I read that we can really have maximum 50 grams of carbs per day and we need carbs to stay in ketosis and stay healthy, as another poster on this thread stated.

What I did with bread was eat the bread I like but only one slice of a smallish and thin slice of rye bread 2X per day, so I would have open-faced sandwiches type of deal.

I just found a 0% sugar 0% carb 0% fat 0% sodium wine, so maybe future companies will follow suit with other types of alcohol. This is game changer.

I also some days practice fasting for a minimum of 16 hours for ketosis to start burning that fat and it's quite easy as most days my bad back does not allow me to do much, so I'm really not that hungry any way.

The fact of the matter is that I don't want to give up some foods, so it's a balancing act.

Good luck with your keto diet your way. It can be a difficult road to keep following.

Thank you for your input!   THIS is what makes a system work -- the input of people who have been there.

I am the cook of our family, and cook for my Darlin' and my Mother.   Today I made Pork Chop Suey, and I made rice for Mom and my Darlin', and I made fried cabbage for me.

Yesterday, liver and onions, and I made saffron mashed potatoes for my Darlin' and Mom.  Also served them canned corn with lite curry.   For myself, I made spiced shredded turnips, which I thought accepted the pan gravy quite well.   I'm doing okay.  I don't miss carbs as much now.  Which isn't to say that someday I will yummy down on a Double Bacon Cheeseburger with Fries and IPA draft beer  (oh! oh! oh!), but for now I can supresses the urge.

Now I want mashed white turnips with gravy. That is actually what I substituted for mashed potatoes when I was on that strict keto diet and I miss it...minus the gravy.

I mean you could go for the cheeseburger with fries and IPA draft beer if you first fast for 16-18 hours first. That one meal can range up to 1400 calories (but you probably need 2000 or more calories per day, right?). You could not eat the top part of the hamburger bun and only one piece of bacon and remove half the cheese - just slowly nibble on the fries and slowly sip the beer. Maybe you can reduce the calories a little bit. lol

The trick may be to eat it really slowly but with that kind of meal it's really a digging in type of thing.

I figure I would only have to ingest a half pound of insoluable fiber to offset the carb overload.   Wow Lol

When I was a kid, my Mom commented that the dogs didn't hardly even get to taste the meat that they chomped down.   Well, the dogs were enjoying their culinary delights at THEIR pace.  Same as I eat faster than my Darlin'.  I don't think I could enjoy a bacon cheeseburger with fries with two, count 'em two, beers at any other pace than my own.   Thus, I won't be having those things, nor any keto cheeseburgers, until the point where I have acheived enough weight loss to have the real deal.

Thanks, though, for your counsel.   I think your methodology may have true merit for some who are dabbling with keto.  Thankyou!

I hit the 10 pound weight loss wall with the strict keto diet and that sort of gave me a good reason to slack.

Prepare for it.

I've already passed it, and feeling good.   Sleeping better, have more energy.   The first time we tried Keto, it didn't work very well.   I like to think I've applied those lessons this time around and doing it My Way.  Spin
