It's Hard To Trust People Online.

Hope for the best, prepare for the worst, sounds about right, Quint.

But it's a balancing act i suppose, just like most other aspects of life.

Because when we are always preparing for the worst.

We need to be careful not to end up mentally living there...

I think under such circumstances.

Mobility and being armed may serve one better than the likes of trust.

Which, let's face it, is apt to be out the window.

Should the sky actually ever happen to fall... Spin

Most elderly people will have to stay in place but being armed, just in case, is wise advice.

Unfortunately, some elderly people staying in place without being prepared may have no choice but to trust in others come what may. I don't think everyone can be prepared for every eventuality especially when it comes to health concerns.

Aye, "old age is not for sissies" eh?

If it all goes breasts-up, and survival of the fittest becomes the colour of the day.

It's human nature that's the real problem...

Trust is not stupid.

It is more about being brave enough to let the right people in.

See now this is where my trust in the good side of human nature comes into play where people will get together to help each other as I have seen during Greece's economic collapse and other nations sending aid to war torn countries.

Never judge a book by its cover comes to mind when discussing online persona because the rules of RL encounters really don't apply the same way.

I am of the mind that all of us have experienced and/or suffered life's trials and tribulations and come out of that fire with different coping mechanisms and/or knowledge. It will take time to read that book with the wisdom to see beyond the cover.

Im still apt to ponder it would resemble Mad Max more than any sort of anarchic paradise, buddy.

I may be being pessimistic.

But I've seen far too much hate and evil in this world to imagine it would simply all go away or that people will coexist or cooperate.

If or when the lights go out...

I mean i hope im wrong, if that counts...

That would depend upon the catastrophic event causing TS to HTF in the first place. If it is an economic collapse and government help disappears, then I have Greece's societal actions to look back on and learn from. Even in a Mad Max scenario, people merged into a community.

If it is a nuclear disaster in cities, then that is not necessarily a hopeless situation, as nuclear radiation subsides rather quickly before people can venture outside their homes to look for food and water and/or others to help them. Most people going outside during the first few days will not survive.

----

"It is generally recommended to stay sheltered for at least 72 hours to two weeks after a nuclear detonation before venturing outside.
  • Critical Period (First 24–48 Hours): Radiation levels are at their highest and most lethal during the first day. The most dangerous isotopes are present, and staying indoors is crucial to avoid acute radiation sickness.
  • Standard Recommendation (72 Hours to 14 Days): Experts advise remaining in a sealed shelter for a minimum of three days, with two weeks being the ideal duration to allow radiation levels to decay to safer thresholds.  The "Rule of 7s" indicates that for every seven-fold increase in time after the blast, radiation intensity drops by a factor of ten.
  • Safety Verification: Before exiting, it is essential to monitor radiation levels using a Geiger counter and follow instructions from emergency management authorities, as conditions vary based on distance from the blast, weather, and whether the explosion was an airburst or ground burst." (LLM)

A healthy dose of scrutiny is a wise course of action along with a loaded and trusty firearm within fast and easy reach.
