Farmers Almanac Winter 2024/2025 - Calmer and Gentler Winter
#1
Posted this at ATS.
Thought I'd post here as well.

They claim to be traditionally 80% accurate ...

Almanac Winter 2024/2025

Take a look at where  you live.
Farmers Almanac says 'calmer and gentler' winter.
Where we live - Delaware - Mild and Dry.

We are in 'region 2' which says -
The most snow is expected to arrive in late December and late February.

Just two storms?  I'm good with that.

When I was younger I loved it when it snowed.
Now that I'm old (62), I don't like the snow.
Have to walk in it, have to drive in it, have to get the dog to go out and do his business in it.

No thanks.

I still don't want the heat of the south.   That would be worse.
But where we are in the Mid Atlantic ... it's pretty even keeled.

I really miss the Almanac being more respected...

Once TV weather took off... I could never tell what the next few weeks would be like.
And the almanac became just an "old farmer" thing to be ignored.

How do you like living in DE?  I grew up in PA but drove through DE a lot heading to the beaches.  We just did that drive again this past summer and now as an adult, I'm considering a relocation out of Texas.  Delaware was always attractive to me

Too many people.   It's very 'city'.

But it's a good place to be if you want stuff to do.  We have NYC just 2 hours away.  DC just 2 hours away.  Everything in Philly to do.   All the historical stuff like Gettysburge, Valley Forge, etc etc.   Ocean City Maryland is just 2 hours away.

I was born and raised in Connecticut and rather live in New England.  Up in Maine or New Hampshire.  Mountains and lots less people and lots of critters .... But we can't afford that.   It got too expensive up there.

The Almanac forecasts a cold, snowy winter for us in Northern Alberta this year. Fingers crossed for the snow and a good rain in the spring!

The lake I live on has dropped dramatically this year and has for the last two years. In talking to my neighbors on the north side of the lake, they are afraid that they will not be able to put their boat dock in the usual spot next year if something drastic doesn’t happen.

We had to add an 8’ section to ours this spring and I found a new line of rocks in an area that used to be fairly submerged. So, a new prop is going to be installed when I pull the boat out this fall…

It says mild and dry for East coast Canada with colder temps around February. Pretty typical for us. I recently moved to a more south western location , closer to the ocean, so we will see how things differ.

I think we're going to have an early winter. I've noticed trees dropping some leaves, bugs coming inside, and squirrels hiding acorns. Very early in the year to see such changes here, IMHO. We've also had record rainfall amounts here to the extent that existing drainage systems are simply overwhelmed in some areas.
