Man that makes me remember my father in 1988/89, it was around the time our industry started using China for apparel manufacturing. We had just finished a trade market, and while all the other showrooms were slow, we were busy as hell. Dad said this was terrible for our industry or our country, even if the finished product was cheaper and up to standards, we need to stay domestic to keep control of the industry. 


Within 6 months, our 100% American firm closed a 180-person factory in Los Angeles, and all products were imported from China. IIRC the firm saved $5.32 a unit and didn't have to maintain factory space in downtown Los Angeles. 1 year later, we were fired as representatives, even though our territory did more business than any other. 18 months later they hired our team back, but the damage was done, our 2 million dollar territory had shrunk to $878,000. An iconic industry brand introduced in the 60s went OOB in late '94, about 7 years after halting domestic production
