... But it doesn't help that we all live among those who "craft and create" the circus for their own entertainment,
despite anyone else's intentions otherwise...
It doesn't help that what someone was wanting to say or ask, is smothered for the 'joy' of that circus.
Can ten people who want to explore a topic, or simply thinking on the perceptions of others, really be told...
"Well it really doesn't matter, ...'dots on a screen,' ..."go buy a yogurt."...?
No one seeking to engage others should rightly acquiesce to that circus as an "it is what it is" factor.
I bet a lot of people come to DI intentionally seeking not to have to suffer the "I'd post but why" frustration... in light of no good reason other than a tangential member spat that just won't end.
Each if us chooses what matters to us... all of it is separate from us, thus can be characterized as distraction...
No one grows looking only inward, nor only outward...
awareness calls it's own value to itself.
... these topics are not ever contentious because of what we learn, I think...
I view the 'circus' threads, the political threads, nonsense arguing as two things:
entertainment
training in patience and eloquence/compassion
Only by not getting emotional about it and treating it as an exercise in writing and thought, or trying to get your point across and maybe enjoy the jousting to keep you sharp.
But as soon as it becomes maddening, or frustrating, you've lost the game and should leave the circus tent.
This usually occurs after 2 pages or so.
My humble opinion.

I'd say: "what you put into the world comes back to you" reflects the concept of karma,
which suggests that every action has a corresponding reaction.
You are responsible for -- yourself -- your words -- your intentions -- your energy.
In the end -- you will judge yourself.
Make wise choices.

It's always 'on'. However, if I'm doing something, like working, then I won't notice it, but it's still there (I assume).

Had to go check on google for anechoic chamber, lol. No, I've never been in those, nor a float tank, as far as I can remember.
However, as I've mentioned in a previous post to FlyersFan, it tends to change in intensity depending on my state of consciousness.
As far as the apple tree is concerned, there's probably not much difference between a worm and a human...

A simple litmus test.
Apply it to politics, conspiracy rabbit holes, science, hobbies, videos people recommend.
Everything about this reality is constructed to distract you.
Keep the fundamental focus. Ask if it really matters, and to what end. Don't get lost in the circus.
So, should I take shrooms to become undistracted?

Perfectly said. Alongside of understanding yourself is being honest with yourself. That's the rough patch. To be honest with yourself ABOUT yourself is a tough row to hoe, but once crossed, it can open up understanding that can make you whole.
I would readily applaud your thread if that were still a function that was available to me.

Surely believing that everything is an attempt to delude you specifically, is paranoia.
I would, instead, conclude that reality is not under anyone's control because those who pretend control are so incredibly ineffectual - all the time.
And, also, that most outcomes can be anticipated by any objective observer who pays attention - We are usually watching a trainwreck in slow motion and are powerless.
Otherwise we'd frequently win the lottery.

Unless we collectively join and manifest a different reality, is that beyond reason?

Even if we wish our hardest, we are confounded by the stochastic nature of physics.
