Mine did too, it's supposedly a very common marking.

We have them for 2 1/2 years, and Kira (the stripped one) still doesn't allow us to pick her up. It took me almost 6 months for her to allow me to touch her, and almost 2 years to allow me to lift her front paws.
I'm a patient person, I'll wait.
I have another rescue -- Luna
She lived underneath a shed in my backyard for a year
I brought her food and water every day but I couldn't go near her and she wouldn't go near me
I started sitting outside on the ground, she'd sneak up to smell my shoe but still wouldn't let me touch her
Then she got sick so I captured her and brought her in the house to care for her
It took a few weeks for her to get acclimated but now she sleeps with me, she follows me around the house, she sits on top of my chair when I'm in it
We're inseparable

Carl was the same. When we got him he hid behind the sofa only coming out when we went to bed.
Then he escaped and we didn't see him for ages. Then he came back and slept in an old rabbit hutch. We put food out but when id open the back door he'd run away.
I sat out the back for a month or two and eventually he'd come closer and closer until one day he came up and rubbed against my leg and that was it, he was in.
Bless him.

Here is Bailey (hard at work). She is also a rescue and my 4th beagle. Hard to believe that two other families gave up on her but now she has a home.

Cats...are unique animals
I'm not convinced they should have ever been domesticated at all
I love all animals but tbh, I'm not a 'cat person'
I'm more of a 'dog person'
My best friend for 12 years was an amazing black lab (Milo, also a rescue)
He crossed Rainbow Bridge a couple years ago and I swore off pets forever because the heartbreak is too much
Then out of the blue, all these cats mysteriously showed up
I can't ever turn away an animal in need
So now I'm sanctuary

We don't own Cats, to them, we are "Staff".
Carl is looking at me:

She's beautiful.
