Thats right they used an engraver on the prop blade root.A big nono on high stressed parts.

One of my former coworkers/SWAT medic mentors was a C-130 loadmaster for about fifteen years. He has mentioned in the past that they had a lot of problems with the -130E when he was in. They were around 25-30 years old at the time and were apparently far more likely to get stuck in long term maintenance than any of the others. He made mention of the wing box on the E’s was almost always a problem. Didn’t get into specifics, but I’ll ask if he can expound on his experience any further.

The C-130 used a single strut at the center wing box. It's prone to cracks, and fatigue problems. A portion of the E model fleet in the US was grounded in 2005 because of cracks found. Instead of coming up with an enhanced wing box, like they did with the J model, the earlier models all got bandaids and triage to keep them flying.

Loved working on Hercs when QANTAS did the windscreen mods for the RAAF.So much easier to work on than 747,s .
