I'm not an expert, but dusting off my psychology degree I can give you my opinion ... the shooter wanted what was found to be found. He had messages on that ammo that he wanted law enforcement to find. Early reports said the weapon had messages on it as well. The shooter wanted to make a statement while at the same time he wanted not to get caught, therefore he left it all behind where he knew it would be found all the while he was safely almost 250 miles away.
